Step-by-step process of making Lentil Fritters - The quickest snack.

White Simple Camera Photo Collage.jpg

If you want something quick to do in the afternoon with tea or to serve sudden guests, this might be one of the best options.

This recipe doesn't require many ingredients, it needs no time except if you have soaked the lentils, and it tastes good. I always put some roughly blended lentils in my fridge so whenever I crave or need something quick, I can make this without wasting time in preparation. You can follow this trick too.

Let me share the quickest and tastiest recipe that we call Peyaju in our language.

Ingredients:

  • Lentils 200 gm (soaked for more than 2 hours)
  • Shrimps 50 gm (optional)
  • Onion slices 100 gm
  • Green cillies, as per your taste
  • 1/3 tsp of Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp of Salt
  • 1/2 tsp of ginger and garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp of cumin powder/paste

This is to serve 2/3 persons. If you need more you can increase the ingredients accordingly. You can mix all the ingredients and preserve them in the fridge for up to months. Whenever you need just put off the fridge a few hours before frying and a tasty snack would be prepared!

Step-by-step process.

Soak the lentils for over 2 hours in water, strain them, and blend roughly. If you need a smooth texture then blend as per. I like the rough texture, it's more crispy this way.

Put all the spices accordingly and mix them properly.

Take the onion slices, chilies, and if you want some coriander and mix them with the shrimp and lentils.
I added the small shrimp to enhance the taste, it's not mandatory. Mix all the ingredients properly and they will be ready to fry.

You can give them your desired shape, I used a spoon to put them in the hot oil. Fry for a few minutes in medium-low heat. Flip occasionally to cook evenly on both sides.

Take them off the pan when done and they will be ready to serve.

Serve them hot with sauce, salad, or any other way you want.

See, how simple, easy, and quick the recipe is. You can enjoy a comforting delight at home whenever you feel like by making this snack. And if you follow the trick to put the blended lentils in the fridge then it would be operated in no time.

This is one of my go-to snacks and I love the taste. It's our traditional and most popular snack as well.

I hope you enjoyed the recipe and will try it. Let me know your experience.

common in india too.. even my favourite.. I also cooked in the same way....

Yes, it's common in this region. I have seen a South Asian Hiver do this same recipe with corn. We have a lot of similarities in our cuisine.
Good to hear that it's your favorite.

what kind of beans are lentils? I don't know because there is no picture.

This is what lentils look like; there are a few varieties also, but I chose the orange-pilled one.
Sorry, I should have added the photos of lentils, but I forgot.
Thanks for asking.

That looks really crispy 🤤🤤✨, I'd love to have this as a snacks. And I never really tried a Lentils, im not sure if ever my oldies knows about it 🤔🤔

Lentil is very common here and tastes in between chickpeas and corn. I bet you will like it.
Thanks 🤩

Right, I saw some people here using that in their recipes, coz it's healthy. I think they are available in here too, but maybe only a few people knows it.

You can try other alternatives like corn and any kind of grains, they will taste similar.

Corn is the best, its been a long time since I last had corn. I love corn soup, omg, I should make this. If I made amit as fritters would it be too hard and too crunchy to chew 🤔

It's like an okoy. That's what we call here in the Philippines. 😅

Okay, oh Okoy! :) :) I looked it up on Google, yes, it's the same thing. Thanks for sharing the info :)

That's making me drool.

I wish I could share some with you :)

Ok. Me provocó mucho. Intenta agregarle la pasta del chorizo. Quedan estupendas

Ok. I'll be honest, during the super bad times in Venezuela, this was our lunch and dinner. With rice, with bread, with pasta, even at parties as a snack. It got to the point where I didn't even like them anymore, now that everything has been improving, or rather we can have a better acquisition, I miss them and yours look so appetizing and attractive. It made me want to try them a lot. Try adding the chorizo paste. They are great.

I totally can understand. When I was in the hostel, I survived on bread and biscuits; now I avoid them as much as I can. So you don't have to feel bad about not waiting to try this anymore.
Doesn't it feel nice to have a better life after all the struggle?
Thanks for your compliment. Have a wonderful day ahead. :) :)

This would be nice for dinner! Thank you for sharing, I would definitely try this 😊

Sure, we sometimes ass this as a side with dinner. :)

It's my favorite and I wish I could taste it. I think I can make it also but I have never tried to make it anytime.
