Hello foodies, are you in the mood for some different food?
If you read my Hive post yesterday Hitting the lower trail to Methil and the Heritage centre then you might have realised Mrs T and I were on a mission in another local town from ours and got caught short in a downpour and had time to kill!
What better way to kill time on a Saturday morning than to treat yourself to a wee spot of breakfast!
Put your umbrella away
Luckily we saw on google maps that there was a cafe just up ahead, and sure enough it was where it should have been!
Being blue I just had to go inside!
Cook's Cafe
To be honest I was a bit apprehensive as I approached to cafe, I saw the inside and couldn't see any seating!
Not to worry they had a wee bit through the back!
For info the address of the cafe was :
Cook's Cafe, 239 High St, Methil, Leven KY8 3ED
It turns out they have been there for over 40 years!
It looked like they still had the original decor. Which was comfy and functional.
I was just going to get a bacon roll or something, but then the menu said a Scottish breakfast of 5 items for £4.50.
That was ridiculously cheap.
Not only the food, but £1 for a mug of tea and £1.10 for a mug of coffee!
I had good vibes and ordered a tea, I don't normally as it is like dishwater.
Hash brown for the American.
You could order a hash brown or tattie scone for 40p extra. I ordered the hash brown for Mrs T to accompany her baked beans, fried egg, bacon, black pudding and haggis.
I had link sausages instead of beans. I think beans was an English thing they brought up here. A nice runny yolk is all the wetness you need when the haggis and black pudding were as moist and perfectly cooked as we got.
The fried bread.
In days gone by fried bread would be far too greasy, but now it is light and tasty and good value too!
We did have a wait as everything is cooked to order. They have an amazing take out service as the phone kept ringing and people kept coming in to collect their orders!
The verdict
I am giving Cook's Cafe a 10 out of 10.
It cost us £11.60 and was incredible value.
Even the coffee at £1.10 was insane value, you can keep your Starbucks and all that naff!
The food was delicious, they also do home cooked meals like stovies. At that price it is worth going there for a different meal!
They even had huge muffins and cakes. Unfortunately we had to run to get to out class so I didn't get a chance to snap them!
Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful February

What's the reason for beans with breakfast? I don't think I have ever seen them served at breakfast like that.
Quite common here, I like them doused with HP sauce.., that's the stuff thats common in derelict buildings.
What's the thought behind it though? I love baked beans, but I wouldn't think of having them for breakfast.
These are baked beans on there own and don't have pork in, they are also not as sweet as American beans. I like them but not with my breakfast.
It seems Heinz went on an advertising blitz in 1927 saying that baked beans were a great addition to the English breakfast.
Very interesting!
Nice! It looks like it was a delicious breakfast, and you cleaned off the plate! Is haggis usually a morning dish?
Yeah it hit the mark. Up here in Scotland yes it is common for a haggis slice to be served with a Scottish breakfast. The ultimate is black pudding, haggis and white pudding. They have fruit pudding but that is more of an English thing and too sweet for me.
Looks like an amazing place for a hearty breakfast! Great prices, delicious food, and a cozy vibe—definitely worth a visit. That fried bread and black pudding sound fantastic!
The fried bread was great and far less greasy than I remember they used to be. The black pudding was cooked to perfection.

Sausage, bacon and egg, but what's haggis? They look really good though. Especially the beans 🤤🤤. That's a nice set if food, cheao but quality. That's what we all wanted ✨
Hehe haggis is the national dish of Scotland.
Some people don't believe they exist, but they little animals that run around the mountains in Scotland, and have shorter legs as they keep going round the mountain.

It honestly doesn't look very good, fried bread... I haven't see that in ages. It is cheap though, down south (Lancashire), you're talking £10 for one of these.
Yeah £10 is more common up here too. The fried bread was far less greasy than I remembered them being. This was almost just toast.
Here, a traditional Venezuelan breakfast would be refried black beans. I'm not one to eat grains for breakfast, but it must have its charm. I think I told you that near my city, there is a town where they make the best morcillas in the world. They are aliñadas and they are spicy! To rave. I don't know about you, but I love to find places where you can eat well and cheaply. A big hug, Ed!
These beans are navy or haricot beans. I do make pinto beans and often refry those!
Ah yes morcilla, and I need to put that town on my to do list Nancy. Oh yes I love finding places that have good cheap food! A big very big Valentine's Day Nancy 💙
Likewise, dear Ed. A big hug
The food looks yummy and a relaxing way to kill time. 😌😌. Though I haven't tried those haggis and black pudding😁.
I doubt you will have haggis, as it is Scottish, but black pudding you might have had something similar, it is blood pudding.
Pudding here is bread,is it bread?
😂😂
I have had some breakfast fast with beans and yam, or with rice.
rice is always good for breakfast too
Wow! Perfect for breakfast you will be really full sausage, egg, bread,it is so delicious😋 you clean off the plate dude ha. Heheheh
Hehe yeah I was starving and a clean plate is a good sign!
The ambiance of the cafe was so cool. The food they serve were my comfort food every morning. But I'm not familiar with haggis though.
Ah yes haggis is Scotland's national dish
