Soy un fanático de la ciencia ficción, es para mí el género definitivo. En su mayoría me gusta como plantean mundos utópicos y sociedades avanzadas. Aunque no es el caso de esta serie que les traigo. Más bien todo lo contrario.
Battlestar Galactica presenta un escenario al borde de la extinción. La humanidad huye por el cosmos con una pequeña flota luego de que todas sus colonias fueran bombardeadas por los Cylon.
Los Cylon son una inteligencia artificial creada por los humanos hace más de 100 años. Luego de una pelea, la neófita raza de máquinas huyó al espacio y no se oyó más de ellos.
Un día sin previo aviso las 12 colonias de la humanidad fueron atacadas en simultáneo, toda la fuerza militar humana fue destruida y la población prácticamente extinta. Solo unos grupos aislados llegaron a activar sus motores de salto y huir del lugar. Los Cylon habían evolucionado hasta ser orgánicos y ahora se veían como los humanos. De carne y hueso con algunas mejoras incluida la resurrección, al morir sus conciencias podían transferirse a las naves cercanas para revivir en un cuerpo nuevo. Gracias al parecido pudieron infiltrarse en nuestra civilización y deshabilitar las defensas de las colonias.
50.000 personas es todo lo que queda ahora de la humanidad. Huyen perseguidos de manera implacable. Su única fuerza militar es una enorme pero antigua nave tipo Battlestar que funcionaba como un museo. La nave se salvó de los hackeos Cylon al no poseer computadoras conectadas en red, porque era de la época de la guerra anterior. Por eso sobrevivió a los ataques cibernéticos que deshabilitaron a las más avanzadas flotas humanas. Con esa antigua Battlestar huyen con relativa dignidad mientras buscan La Tierra. Que según las escrituras fue donde nació la humanidad y las 12 tribus.
La serie tiene personajes impresionantemente complejos, rebosantes de emociones, intensos y muy humanos. La cordura pende de un hilo con algunos, pero sus excentricidades son una parte esencial de esta serie. Por momentos está plagada de un esoterismo y mística muy bien desarrollados. Las escrituras y las profecías más inverosímiles terminan siendo ciertas, las visiones y sueños, reales. Los pocos personajes cuerdos se ven enloquecer día a día en la realidad delirante que transitan.

Desde la perspectiva Cylon también existen muchos cambios y confusión. Como seres orgánicos y sintientes, la nueva civilización cibernética va evolucionando. Se adaptan a las nuevas emociones que los inundan, atormentan y confunden. Pero quieren más, aman con pasión y odian con amargura, son maquiavélicos y fríos. Mucho más humanos y alejados de esa perfección que perciben tener.
La serie está terminada, tiene 4 temporadas y una trama muy variada tratando temas éticos, raciales, religiosos y sociales. Aparte tiene detalles de política, guerra y estrategia que la hacen resaltar de muchos de sus competidores. La atención a los detalles y la ambientación, todo es sumamente real. Serie que creo muy poco conocida y muy poco valorada, pero de una calidad muy buena en todo aspecto.
I am a fan of science fiction, it is for me the definitive genre. Mostly I like how they propose utopian worlds and advanced societies. Although this is not the case with this series that I bring you. Rather the complete opposite.

Cylons are an artificial intelligence created by humans more than 100 years ago. After a fight, the neophyte machine race fled into space and were never heard from again.

One day without prior warning, humanity's 12 colonies were attacked simultaneously, the entire human military force was destroyed and the population practically extinct. Only a few isolated groups managed to activate their jump engines and flee the scene. The Cylons had evolved to be organic and now looked like humans. Made of flesh and blood with some improvements including resurrection, upon death their consciousnesses could be transferred to nearby ships to revive in a new body. Thanks to the resemblance they were able to infiltrate our civilization and disable the defenses of the colonies.

50,000 people is all that is left of humanity now. They flee, pursued relentlessly. Its only military force is a huge but ancient Battlestar-type ship that functioned as a museum. The ship was saved from Cylon hacking by not having networked computers, because it was from the time of the previous war. That's why it survived the cyber attacks that disabled the most advanced human fleets. With that ancient Battlestar they flee with relative dignity while searching for Earth. Which according to the scriptures was where humanity and the 12 tribes were born.
The series has impressively complex characters, overflowing with emotions, intense and very human. Sanity hangs by a thread with some, but their eccentricities are an essential part of this series. At times it is plagued by a very well-developed esotericism and mysticism. The most unlikely scriptures and prophecies end up being true, the visions and dreams, real. The few sane characters see themselves going crazy day by day in the delirious reality they navigate.

From the Cylon perspective there is also a lot of change and confusion. As organic and sentient beings, the new cybernetic civilization is evolving. They adapt to the new emotions that flood, torment and confuse them. But they want more, they love with passion and hate with bitterness, they are Machiavellian and cold. Much more human and far from that perfection that they perceive they have.

The series is finished, it has 4 seasons and a very varied plot dealing with ethical, racial, religious and social issues. In addition, it has details of politics, war and strategy that make it stand out from many of its competitors. The attention to detail and setting, everything is extremely real. Series that I believe is very little known and very undervalued, but of very good quality in every aspect.
