Great story and insight @arbitrarykitten. I suppose watching the animal kingdom and gauging your next decision on what you observe makes some sense. Given that animals were designed to handle aspects of what they eat which would still be toxic to us might still present a challenge. Perhaps someone learned that goats have a digestive system similar to our own. For one thing, I have learned that goat's milk, for whatever reason, is more tolerable for human consumption than the milk of cows.
Your thought brings back to my mind my father teaching us, as we went out into the mountains with him, to watch the birds and the berries they eat. Many berries are toxic. What he told us was that we could eat what the birds ate and be okay. We never put this to the test ... 😉
