The problem underlying the lack of interest of powers such as the U.S. to sit down to dialogue and enter into a serious debate is precisely the inability to defend their narratives with concrete facts or to ignore the latter when they are exposed in the way Putin did. Nevertheless, some positions and assumptions are still debatable, while I believe that Carlson could have touched on some sensitive points in Russian behavior. It could help in the sense of having Putin's reasoning about them.
