Does your Akebia require much maintenance, beyond the optional pruning to contain it?
Also I'm wondering about the 'Hardy Kiwi'
Is that a hardy variety of the kiwi fruit tree? Or a different plant altogether?

Its pretty hardy so no you do not need to do much for it. Just once it grows big managing its vines can be alot of work.
Ah yeah the Hardy Kiwi, these are new plants to me. I just got about a half dozen of them. They are like normal sized kiwis but the hardy ones are smaller.
If you do get hardy kiwi make sure you get a good male to female ratio.
