WHAT DOES THE TERM "ACTION" MEAN, AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO "TAKE ACTION"?
Action is something that is done, usually to achieve a goal. To take action is to take a step, measure, or make a move toward accomplishing something.
Several incidents have occurred in Nigeria over the last two years, most notably in 2020, necessitating extensive action. Nigerians, particularly youths, have been subjected to a variety of hardships and pains, which have claimed the lives of many young people and hampered the progress of many others. As a result of the 2020 lockdown, youths engage in illegal activities such as internet fraud and drug addiction. The government then decided to take appropriate action against such transactions by empowering law enforcement agents such as the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to deal with anyone caught in fraudulent acts. But these actions later took another turn, in which these law enforcement officers take the actions as a chance to extort and kill youths illegally. And this also results in youths taking action to end this unlawful agency by protesting which leads the government to put an end to them and also find another best kind of action to end fraudulent acts among youth and punish culprits.
Nigeria is now one of the top countries in terms of fraud, leaving the government with no choice but to take action to protect the country's heritage.
Most of the time, we struggle with things that we should be dominating because we fail to take action against them.
CHILD ABUSE is another issue that requires immediate attention, but most victims of such deeds tend to find a way to live with the pain rather than fight it. Child abuse has many causes that must be addressed, such as poor parenting, societal attitudes toward child abuse, and victims' inability to obtain the justice they deserve. Most parents were abused as children, which affected them emotionally or mentally later in life.
So how would you expect such parents to take any kind of action whenever their children are abused? Also, single parenting or parents busy with work than taking care of children can cause child abuse. A child that doesn’t have the attention or care of his/her parents which makes such child neglected or vulnerable to abuse, so how do you expect such child to inform the parents about abuse because of no father to child or mother to child relationship. All these challenges/causes need to be tackled, appropriate actions need to be taken against them.
MENTAL HEALTH is another issue that must be addressed. Today's society is seeing an increase in the number of people suffering from mental illness, which has an impact on how most people live, think, behave, work, and interact with others.
DEPRESSION, as a mental illness, has caused some people to die prematurely or to lose their jobs and even their families. Some are suffering from traumas from their past or relationships, as well as other mental illnesses such as phobias, anxiety, disorders, and so on, for which we must take measures/action.
