Yes, the title of this post is a quote.
I try not to get political in my posts and, despite the potentially inflammatory nature of this post title, this post is still not political.
Canadians are, right now, particularly resistant to the United States. I saw this pretty clear when I visited Calgary last week; there were more Canadian flags raised and flying in private houses than I have ever before seen. Shops and stores have "Made in Canada" stickers and posters very prevalent. There are even mobile apps to help Canadian consumers identify "Made in Canada" products.
Most notable, of course, was a few weeks ago when the American National Anthem was booed and jeered in Toronto during an NHL game, and again during the 4 Nations Cup tournament (Boston reciprocated, and jeered the Canadian anthem).
Last Sunday I was at the Calgary Flames game when the San Jose Sharks visited. During the US National Anthem someone tried to jeer. He was quickly told - by the crowd, to Shut the Fuck Up! No one booed after that. No one jeered. In fact, the crowd applauded at the end.
It was heartwarming.
I think this is a good lesson for anyone who wants to disparage anyone else based on their nationality. Seriously. Just shut the fuck up.

I tend to agree, besides Canadians share many traits and values with our American neighbors. And not every American is out to invade Canada or like every Russian is out to take over the world either. I do have relatives in the US and they are not as our Canadian media portrays them to be.
I made a decision to move to the US and, ultimately, become a citizen. Honestly, I'm more than a little embarrassed about the state of things, but moving back to Canada is looking more and more possible of late.
I've just been listening to the Empire podcast and the whole first 20 episodes are based on the English in India. I've just got up to the bit about the Partition of India/Pakistan and the terrible violence that happened when they drew up the border, and how Muslims and Hindu were basically killing each other - it was incredibly traumatic and three generations afterwards, they're still fighting and still fucked up over it.
And it struck me, that's the world, right? All this bullshit over religion, nationality, etc etc. We're always finding a reason to hate each other instead of a reason to love each other.
History keeps repeating.
England didn't do such a great job in partitioning Pakistan after WWII, either. Their track record is pretty dismal.
I'm not an overly religious person, but I really admire Hippy Jesus and his teachings. Be good to each other. Respect each other. All will work out well in the end.
No they did a terrible job. Guy had ten weeks to draw it up and it was his first time in India. He never went back. Crazy.
Yeah look I'm more a Buddha fan than a Jesus gal but yes that works for me.
One of the woman I was mates with in town goes to church. She was staunchly pro Israel bombing the daylight out of Gaza because they had right to defend themselves. Even killing thousands and thousands of woman and children, I asked? Yes.. I was horrified. Christian my ass. I don't talk to her anymore and told her expressly why.
Sounds like the Scotland England rivalry.
It does! I think the term "frenemies" is quite apt.
Yeah people need to cut the shit - division politics is a race to the bottom and we need to root that shit out!
Right? We As A People should be able to do better.
Was it a backwards ploy of Trump to say they should become the next state annexed? To get them to unify a bit? Don't know, maybe it is a backlash. Either way, who won the game?
I think he has a couple of goals in mind: 1, to strengthen the border and, 2, to distract from other items he's trying to push through. It's working!
The Flames won! 😁 They played poorly and didn't deserve to win, but they squeaked it out.
