Anna has been my best friend since we were about 6 years old, which means we've been friends for a staggering 34 years. God: now I feel OLD 😂
Anna and I navigated so much together as children. We both grew up in pretty messed up situations and like a few of my friends, we basically raised each other.
When she was staying over this previous weekend we reminisced about childhood experiences. I clearly remember sitting in the bath with her with a bottle of Pantene conditioner and carefully removing massive dreadlocks from her unkempt beautiful blonde hair. Luckily for me, this skill became very useful to me as I learned to do the same for my niece, and for my stepdaughter @aimeludick when I first met her.
Suffice to say that this woman is incredibly special to me. She now lives in London. She is a British citizen by birth, I mean she was born here but both of her parents were/ are British. Her dad passed about 13 years ago. She's been over a number of times to try to make London life work, but this last time has been truly successful and she's been there for over 8 years. Of course, this makes me sad cause I can't just see her when I want, but we do keep in regular contact through WhatsApp voice notes and calls and I really don't think I would have survived the last few years without her. She has really stepped up as a sister and Godmother to Matthew.
Anyway, enough of the background story.
Anna came to visit for the weekend and we had an absolutely incredible time. It's one of those friendships that you can pick up anywhere or at any time and it feels like no time has passed at all.
I made us roast chicken and veggies on Friday and on Saturday we went shopping for hair dye and braai stuff. Needless to say, we treated her to a full traditional ridiculous South African Braai, which we obviously WAY over-catered for - but braai leftovers are always the best :p

The Braai was complete with boerewors, lamb chops, and giant pork steaks. Of course, I also made my famous potato salad and garlic bread (I don't trust other people's garlic bread. There's nothing sadder than paying a ridiculous price for store-bought ones and then they're dry as hell).
She dyed my hair for me before we got started with the braai and lighting the fire, which was just such a lovely treat. And she did an absolutely fantastic job!

This was part 1 of getting ready for my interview on Monday (yesterday). Part two was finding a great nail bar that is actually open on a Sunday! We had breakfast together 1st 
and then went shoe shopping where I finally got a new pair of shoes that were badly needed! Shoes are particularly hard to find for me as I can't really handle a heel and I need good strap support. I was delighted to find the perfect pair at the 1st shop we went to! They actually did have a bit of a heel but were super comfortable and pretty! 
For my nails, we finally settled on Sorbet and my nail technician, Dianna, did an absolutely fantastic job!
Meren said something so sweet and absolutely true. He said Anna is like a magical fairy who helps me remember who I am. Her visit got me out of the bedroom and forced me to do some very much-needed self-care.
Luckily for us, when she went home to her mom on Sunday, it was not goodbye yet as we plan to go out for dinner at a lovely restaurant called Ons Huisie, which is right on the beachfront so the kids can literally run between the ocean and us! I'll post about that too!
