Walking Through the Autumn Solstice

in Ladies of Hive3 years ago

Autumn Equinox: It is the equilibrium of day and night and this represents the light and darkness in our lives. The long summer nights have passed and we are now in a season of transition.

The leaves on the trees are in varying degrees of change, mostly green, but, with hints of yellow and red. Change fills the air, already crisp with the longer nights and the shorter days in which to heat up. Today, the day of the Autumn Equinox, day and night both last for 12 hours, giving us a gentle reminder to find balance. We have so many different traditions stitched into the fabric of Fall. Leaves take the place of flowers and boots come forward in my shoe closet. Pumpkins, cider, and chestnuts roasting on an open fire. I can almost smell it.

There will be light, but, we will have to seek it rather than it coming to us at the break of dawn. I frequently stalk the light, the thing that brings life to a photo, leaving an artistic taste in my mouth. I am in favor of color peeking out from the urban landscape, making it a softer, gentler place to inhabit.

The trees have started to let go of some leaves, but it is raining sunshine today, with a few leaves blowing around. The beauty of this moment does not escape me. I am out of words, always when I come here, yet my mind never stops. I turn in place and am taken yet again by the magnitude of this place, Arlington Cemetery. It overwhelms me, yet draws me close each and every time.

Have you ever open your eyes to the morning light and instinctively know it was going to be a great day? The weather could not have been any more perfect for this day, a true bonus to my life. This part of the country subscribes to the Spring forward, Fall back with our clocks, but, that won't be until November 7th. I will admit it, I have such a love/hate relationship with Autumn. It is with great love that I say this for today is the first day of autumn, however, soon, winter will be upon me. But, that is a story for me to worry about another day.Happy Autumn!

Not quite yet
Come closer to me
I can nearly reach your thoughts
Dressed in shades of pure delight
I hit pause and wait, wait, wait.

A woodland walk among the leaves
Guided by the gentlest breeze
Branches so golden and roots, deep still in the earth
Shading my life from the decades that are spinning
Until
One day
My tall, sturdy knight
Standing through the weather
the seasons of life
In this world that I had created
An all-knowing sense
Of truth, as we know it
Littering the Earth

Summer has been left behind, leaving flowers of deep brilliance in its place. Flowers. And as always, there must be flowers. #alwaysaflower

Hold fast to the break of day
Sun and shine stand in the way
In making this
A chilly reminder
Of reality

Every person's perspective is colored by their own experiences.

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

And just like that, this post is over. Come back tomorrow and I'll do it again!
Have an amazing day!

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course untrimmed:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

I want to thank @tattoodjay for hosting the #WednesdayWalk!

Today this post is dedicated to #WednesdayWalk by @Tattoodjay. It is a wonderful tag that I always look forward to! I like to stroll about, taking in nature and life. What better way to document my day than to take a walk through life? It promotes a healthier lifestyle and fosters that natural connection to living things. Today is a little different walk, so I hope you don't mind. We are going to stroll through the first day of Autumn.</center.

Sort:

Enjoy the Equinox Day & happy autumn! :)

@tipu curate

Thank you so much! It is raining, but, that is bringing out more colors! Happy Autumn to you! Thanks for stopping by and for the tipu!

How beautiful are the autumn colours already in the Northern Hemisphere. Oh how I wish my Sunshine Coast could radiate such colours of autumn. But, no it is not meant to be in this beachy place I love so much.
So Denise thank you for a glimpse of autumn in your post today. Wishing you happiness🌻

Thank you, sweet Angie. You are such a positive energy star, hete on Hive! 💖

The colors of autumn are wonderful!
I think it has its beauty... all seasons are beautiful... but fall with is reds, oranges, yellows... all fiery and bright!
Your walk gives great pleasure to me, so thank you @dswigle!

Are those colors so brilliant!? I love the colors of the autumnal season! And by the way, Happy Autumn!!! Tis the season to be colorful, until its demise, but, in the meantime, we will load up on the beauty! I hope you are having an amazing day!

Hive on, beauty!

Its seems like different Wednesdays walk and one thing is definitely sure autumn is coming, the tree is response by turning its leave into yellow and afterward give up. The place and sign of cemetery always keep you clam and thinking about it and yourself too. The flowers is always keep you fresh in mind, you have very nice and wonderful day.

It is different, you are right. I did not actually take a walk, but, used a series of pictures and walked through the post, partially trying to celebrate the Autumn Equinox and partially because that was the only way I could do one this week.

JJ is very forgiving. :))

And I did not even know it was Autumn Equinox, but what a delightful post love all the rich fall colors

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

It has a way of sneaking up on us, doesn't it? I almost forgot it, but, was looking something up and saw that it was really soon. I love walking through your posts, especially when they go through their own areas, you can really see real life, instead of what we choose to put on a regular post. Thank you so much for hosting this challenge!

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Yeah at times this year has gone so fast and other times so slow

Have a great day

This is very touching and beautiful @dswigle🙏💗 I am always sad to say goodbye to the summer, which I adore, especially since I am a South African by birth now living in the UK for 20 years, but the Autumn does have it's own way of bringing beautiful colour into nature and I love the little nip that starts to develop in the air. I love the idea that as the nights start to equal the days, so we are reminded of the balance that this brings to our lives and the need to achieve balance💗

It is very comforting, isn't it? Thank you so much for your words. Where is South Africa were you from and was it school that brought you to the UK?

I love summer, but, Autumn is such a refreshing change, I love it, but, am always happy to invite the warmth back. There is beauty in the demise of things, so I look forward to the different types of beauty that I will be seeing.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I was born in Durban and raised about 30km inland from there :-) I finished my University education in South Africa, got married a few years later and then we decided in 2001 to move to the UK. We both had great jobs, a home and family around us but the writing was on the wall with respect to the politics, crime, economy, unemployment, disruptions to electricity and water supplies. A number of my colleagues had been hijacked, robbed, or burgled and some were lucky to be alive still. I witnessed a drive-by shooting in central Durban and then was mugged at a traffic light in broad daylight. We just wanted something better for ourselves and for the family we envisaged having one day. Always living with ones' door and windows locked and eyes in the back of your head, not stopping at red lights or stop signs at night unless you had to for fear of being hijacked was no way to live. We had also seen a lot of people losing their jobs, having their homes and vehicles repossessed, and thought we'd get out whilst we were still on top and had assets to take with us. we still went back for many holidays over the years to visit family, but my last visit out there was 2019 when my Mom passed away and we have recently brought my dad over to the UK to live here, so our visits back 'home' will be a lot fewer and far between now. You mention that "There is beauty in the demise of things" and that is true in nature, and I guess when we apply the same construct to a society ill at ease with itself, complete fallout is sometimes required so that regeneration can bring something new and fresh to the table. I do hope that South Africa can one day take it's place at the world's tables with pride. It has so much potential but is sadly still subject to immense corruption.

Yaaayy..it's fall💃

It is a wonderful time of the year, especially here. The heat of summer has started to simmer down to more amenable temperatures and we can look forward to cooler nights as well.

And the colors! The colors are brilliant!

Pics are so heart touching. The life changing poem which refresh your mind while read through. Summer winter raining are the colours of life where we live with .

Thank you so much for the words you left. I appreciate them and the colors are just starting to show off. I hope you have a great day!

I love autumn very much. It contains sadness and loneliness. A little solitude in the dying nature gives peace to every person.

Nature in demise can be very beautiful.

i love this series of images you photographed for this post. the colors and the busy frames with great repetitions. I love this period of time. When i was a kid, i always felt very sad due to these changes. something very deep in my heart always cried and I had no explanation why I was soo sad.

Wow we are not nearly as changed as that. Here and there perhaps a sumac, but they always are fast out of the gate. Well for me, it will be hard to miss that summer that never was.

excellent friend what creepy images

Hello @dswigle. Are you loving the Fall season. It hasn't fully hit yet in my part. I love the photos of the cemetery. The autumn leaves blends well with the quiet, hushed atmosphere.

Yes, we'll start our Fall traditions with all the colors. Markets are already filling up with Thanksgiving decor. The coolness we're feeling is a welcome change from the summer months. Although, this year we didn't experience as hot and humid a season as in the past. Change has definitely come in the weather patterns.

Thanks for sharing your Wednesday Walk.

here I can smell it too

excelently
