One thing I learned from my mother while growing up is having fresh food every time, my mother love to have her garden at the back of the house where she plants different vegetables, fruits, and so on.
At first, I thought that was a waste of time just because she doesn't want to spend much money going to the market to buy things but when I was growing up I realized that she had been doing great for the family by having that garden in the house.
I have a small garden in my apartment where I planted vegetables and some healthy leaves like bitter leaf, scent leaf, and pawpaw fruit, in my city it is very rare to see fresh bitter leaf, you can only get the processed ones which they have extracted the juice away and most of these vegetables are usually planted with fertilizer which is very unfriendly with the body.
This is bitter leaf
When I relocated to the city and I needed bitter leaf to make soup I suffered a lot because they only had the prepared one and it could be the one from last week, it was not fresh at all, so I took permission from my landlord and he said I can have my garden at the back of the house, I was so happy because I learned farming from my mother and I was so glad to put that into practice in other to be having fresh vegetables all the time.
This is my pawpaw leaf
I planted pawpaw as my fruit because pawpaw is one of the fruits I love most and it will take me a distance to get it here in my city, the ones that I can easily get are pineapple, apple, orange, and banana, pawpaw doesn't take much time to grow unlike orange which will take years, so I decided to have pawpaw in my small garden. I just spread the seed some months ago.
This is scent leaf
I love my garden not because I am poor but because I always love having fresh food all the time, it helps to build the body and gives me s healthy body compared to the ones planted with different chemicals which I will consume and cause damage to my body system.
Note:- All the pictures are mine
This is my garden and I am happy to have it, apart from the healthy benefits, it saves money too, instead of buying it from the local market I will just enter my garden and also it helps people around me because I am not the only consuming from it, I give other people who need too but I do lock it to prevent it from domestic animals to have access to it.

It's really nice having your own garden, at least you get whatever you need when you need it. And as you said it also helps to save money.
It helps save a lot, now that things are expensive in my country now
Exactly.
That's an ideal garden
Consuming fresh veggies helps you keep a healthy body
Kudos
So nice that you have learned a very useful skill from your mother. I always dream about having my own garden, maybe one day. Finally, you have your own garden and slowly you will be able to produce many fresh fruits and vegetables...
Have a nice weekend...
It is very nice to have garden, it saves from unnecessarily spending
Ohh that’s called scent leaf?
What is it used for?
Anytime they grow in our backyard we just cut them down because we think they are weeds
It is used to cook and also used to cure diabetes in a local way in my village
Oh okay
Thanks for the insight
You are welcome dear
Your beauty more attractive than the green plants 😍
Thank you dear
I always feel good to appreciate the beauty 😍
So nice of you
❤️❤️❤️
It is always cool to have something like a garden around the house so that one can actually have fresh leaves around the house. It helps one to eat fresh vegetables
By the way that looks like scent leaf right?

Disfrutamos los espacios del jardín, simplemente nos encanta y si nos ayuda con alimentos en el hogar mejor. Un abrazo. @eunice9200
We enjoy the garden spaces, we simply love it and if it helps us with food at home, the better. a hug
Thank you, ma'am, I love garden around me because my Vegetables are always fresh and I save money. Thank you for your support
That is one thing I envy about are fruits that do not grow well in my northern cool climate in Canada unless I have a magic greenhouse. I have only a modest patch for seasonal vegetables, fruit shrubs and a flower bed.
Equally important is caring for a garden as a part of our nurturing nature.
Sadly, many imported produce are contaminated with minute toxins, genetically modified or nutritionally inferior but the govt still allows it sold here.
Thanks @eunice9200

Oh! Paw-paw is called papaya in my country. They are very easy to grow and not much maintenance too. Your leafy greens are healthy. I haven't seen them before though. Specially the bitter leaf, I had to do a close-up look to identify it but never seen them before as well.
Are they really bitter that's why they're called bitter leaf? So how do you cook them?
Just curious.
I had fun reading, I guess your mom did imparted something to you even if at a young age you don't understand why is tending her own garden even if she can buy them in the market. Well, nothing beats our own produce.
Best of luck in the challenge.
It is very bitter but healthy, it is used for making soup and also for curing health issues like when someone is hypertensive in a local way, it is useful for herbal and when using it for cook you need to get rid of the juice because it is very bitter.
You will squeeze the juice out and wash the leaves with salt so that your soup will not be bitter but if you are using it as herbal you can eat it raw after washing or you can drink the juice.
Thank you for your support dear
Oh I see, I think we have a similar plant like that with the bitter taste. I think I can't handle so much bitterness.🤭🤭
Thanks for sharing dear and take care.
Indians love Bitter leaf (Vernonia amygdalina) and it's cousin Neem tree leaf (Azadirachta indica) and our ancient medicines uses both for various medicinal solutions. Especially considered good for Diabetes. I, unlike most of my country people, do not like very bitter things, though i can chew neem from time to time. Better than Bitter gourd.
However @eunice9200 do read up on research for these leaves. A lot of such strong extracts do end up hurting some organs like liver if consumed in certain combinations. This is becoming a big issue here in India with turmeric. It is supposed to be good but people have taken it to extremes and are consuming turmeric at posionous levels for the body. keep an eye out for this.
About the back garden, again this is something i see across India, and why I feel I will be home in Nigeria too. In metros not so much, but every small town in India will have ladies growing something useful, and villages of course will have entire kitchen gardens where everything is grown. I tried a few pots in my balcony. One was some flower, another was green chillies. they bloomed for one cycle and just died out. I don't trust my black thumb since then :)
cheers from a fellow #dreemerforlife.
Having bitter leaf around can't be overemphasized, lol. I remember when I went to stay with my sister, we had to stop making use of bitter leaf because it was hard to get.
It's good to know your landlord allowed you 🥰.
#dreemerforlife
You're doing well, I've always wanted to have a garden of my own, but there's usually no space to do that where I stay. Hopefully one day I'll get the opportunity to nurture my very own garden.
#dreemerforlife
That's one advantage of having a garden, you get to enjoy fresh vegetables that are healthy to the body. I must commend you for taking the time to nurture your garden because I know it's not an easy task. Well done.
One of the best ways to have access to fresh vegetables is by planting them in a small garden and watching them grow over time. It has become more difficult to get fresh vegetables these days especially in the city. The ones in the market looks weird with reddish leaf.
Your landlord is really kind to have allowed you own a small garden.

My mum has her own garden at the back of our house too and I can tell you that it helps a lot. Nothing beats having fresh fruits and vegetables at hand and it helps her save money. Lol
