Beach Days are the Best Days

Nothing soothes my soul more than spending time at the beach or any where close to the sea for that matter. We're fortunate to live just a short drive away from one of the most beautiful beaches with an incredible view of Table Mountain.

We always take the kids down to a spot called Klein Baai, which means small beach in Afrikaans. It was the first time that we made it down there this whole summer. I tend to leave the beach to the tourists over the festive season. Sheesh there is nothing peaceful about sitting on an overcrowded beach. Add to that the stress of finding parking and a spot that's not, literally on top of someone else, and I'd rather stay at home, thank you very much.

The weather was really playing along and it was the PERFECT beach weather. Plenty of sunshine with a slight cool breeze. I actually even found myself getting in the icy cold waters for a dip. On this side we have the Atlantic Ocean, so it is very cold and can only be swam in once you're nice and toasty hot.

Not that the temperature affects my kids at all. They were cruising in the gentle swells and waves for the better of the time that we were there. In between surfing the waves they can be spotted burying themselves in the sand hahahaha. So, yes it was a very fun filled beach day indeed.

It's always a really fun, low cost, way of keeping the kids busy My kids! have literally grown up at the beach and I'm so grateful that we live close enough to have made many wonderful memories as a family down at the beach. Pro tip hide the beach buckets and toys away, this way you won't have to buy the a new set every summer. Kata has had the below set for years now and the only reason it's not buried in our back garden somewhere is because I keep it out of site unless we're on the way down to the beach.

We all came home relaxed and with a parting souvenir of some serious sunburn. I did tell the teenager to put sunscreen on but as most teenagers he felt that he knew better. Needless to say we have been calling him lizard boy all week as he's been peeling rather badly. I'm hoping that next time he will listen to his boomer mother, what he calls me, and put the dam sunscreen on.
