📽My Very First Movie || Or So My Memory Tells Me🎬

I walked into a memorabilia store the other day. And out of all things they had, from cassettes to CDs (yes, even these have become collectables), it was this chest of Ultraman figures that brought memories flooding back.

This is the first movie I remember watching in a cinema when I was about 4/5 years old. And watching a cinema back then was a big thing. There was a countdown to when we were going. Got all dressed up, Dad plonked me in the basket on the bicycle, and off we went. Just Dad and I.

Popcorn wasn't a thing at cinemas, at least not here in Malaysia. But sunflower seeds were. It has been banned for some time now, replaced by popcorn. Also because people ate and just dropped the skin on the floor, like everywhere.

The other thing that some idiots would do is eat chewing gum, and then stick it under the chair or arm-rest. There were many unpleasant experiences; thank goodness, not for me, not in a cinema but a bus-stop yes!

I don't remember much of the movie, just a lot of grunting and fighting. It was fun because Dad and I had a typical father-daughter relationship. And having these special moments with him were just toooo special.

Can you remember your first movie? Tell me 😃
Thank you for dropping in and reading...

Till next time, Carpe Diem❣️

My first movie was a school excursion to out local picture theatre back in the mid 70's, I think I was about 9/10 and we saw a movie called Storm Boy we all cried and my mum came as a chaperone too.

That was a special day that we all still remember 40yrs later and I am from a small country town- 4000 people- then and now.

Ooooh, the trailer - just made me go awwww. The way it used to be :D
I have not watched this movie, but I just might!

But what I find more fascinating is what?!! Only 4k people!! Wow!!! I bet everybody knows everyone!!

Yes it was agreat movie and there was a new one made a few years ago too but I haven't seen it.

As for my home town at 4000 people- it is actually one of the larger towns around there too. Although Merimbula, one town next to it on the coast was only 3500 when I left in 1987, but has now grown to 14000 (35 yrs later) as it is such a gorgeous town and many older people have moved there to retire away from the cities.

And the rest are still villages. And yes, knowing everyone is not so much fun and I'm a city girl at heart, which is why I love Melbourne so much.

I hope that you enjoy #StormBoy

I don't recall the first movie I ever saw on the big screen. I do recall dressing up for the movie theater because it was a fund-raiser premier for my mother's Ladies' Club.

It is so funny how many kids and adults alike sometimes think watching movies in the theater without popcorn and a drink "feels" incomplete, although it shouldn't be. For sure it becomes a burden for parents to budget-in popcorn and a drink (and potentially foods of minimal nutritional value) for their kids to watch a movie in the theater.

It was only when I was in my junior year in high school that I realized why my parents insisted that we don't eat inside the theater. Perhaps I should write about it in a future article!

Thank you for sharing your first movie experience, and your fun time with your Dad!

Have a lovely week ahead, @kaerpediem, and take care. 🥰🌺🤙

It's true, now that you mention it
In fact, our movie nights at home when the kids were younger did have to have something to eat while they watch. I used to get them pizza.

I would like to read the story of why your parents didn't encourage you eating inside a theatre...

Well, I have been tardy and a whole week late to reply and here we are at the start of another week. You have a fabulous one 🤗

Now that is a memory to cherish. Keep it close to your heart. Have a great week ahead and take care

Thank you for dropping in Hetty <33

Yikes... ok now I'm embarrassed hahaha
You are most welcome <33

Lol, Hyper-Dynamic man! I think my son has a figurine of the Japanese super hero somewhere.

Going to the theater was a refreshing change from TV but none stands out. But I fondly recall my father renting these old adventure movies of cinema, some were color, others were black and white. He'd insert a VHS cassette to the player and make popcorn and he'd manage to get commercial popcorn somehow and I'd bring some of my Stuffies to watch; John Wayne, Erol Flynn with Olivia De Havelelin, Clark Gable, Charlton Heston etc, he was into those old epic movies.
One movie that impressed me was Captain Blood with Erol and Olivia (Pirates can fall in Love)

Trip down Retro Memory lane
Thanks for sharing the experience #kaerpediem

Is that what you call Ultraman - Hyper-Dynamic man! Cool - and yes, I watched the Japanese version of the movie... now you know why I heard it mostly as grunts hahaha

I have never heard of this Captain Blood, where have I been? I am off to google it.
Thank you for sharing your story and glad you enjoyed mine <33

Captain Blood is an old Classics 1935 movie of a Pirate Captain starring Erol Flynn and Olivia DeHavillan. I think these old pirate movies inspired my 'Pirate' Career on Hive/Steem/Youtube.

And my video style is doing the video in 'Engrish' styled subtitles, as my tip of the hat for Japanese to English movie genre.

Oh, loved the video!!
Off to look for you on YouTube ;)

Hi Sheila I live movies and the fact they trigger memories from the past is someth I live so much

I don’t know Ultraman, but what a great memory with your dad!

My first movie was Star Wars. 1977, I was three years old and was at a drive in theater with mom and dad. This ignited a life long obsession with Star Wars. 😄

And drive-ins are a thing again 😊
How about that...

That is awesome; to have a 'date' with your dad as a little girl. I do remember Ultra Man, but my first movie was 'Bigfoot' back in the 70's. I don't remember much about the movie now; it was more the experience of going to a theater. Ironically, I now live in "Bigfoot" territory, and no, I've not seen him, lol! Thanks for sharing this special memory with us. Take care and have a good day!💜

You remember your first movie too :D
I've watched Bigfoot too, but I remember I was already going to school then.. so later
Hey, thanks for sharing <33

💕💜🤗

This is weird. Although my grandparents operated the local cinema and I spent each summer holiday with them, I can not remember any movie before “Jewel of the Nile”. I’m sure I’ve seen plenty before that but alas according to my memorie I first I recall was at age 10.

And how fun, to have grandparents operating the local cinema.
I guess you don't really remember because it was like your backyard until a movie that made an impact came along...
I remember Jewel of The Nile :D

The first non animated movie that I remember seeing was How the West Was Won in 1963. A big new movie theater had opened in a nearby town and they were advertising that the theater had 'rocking chair seats'. My dad couldn't wait to try them out, and the entire family went to our first movie together. A big event!

I had been to Disney movies before that with my older cousins in our small local theater. I remember they had the best cherry soda in the vending machine and it cost a dime!

Rocking chair seats!! Never heard of it but I think that's so coool
I wonder if they have those still...

And your memory is just sooo good :D

Hi !

I enjoyed reading your post.

I am not positive it was my first, but my parents took us to see Flipper when I was very small and halfway through the movie, the power went out and we never saw the end of it. LOL !! I'm still scarred from that disappointment ! ha ha

hahahaha, that's funny though
I hope you managed to watch till the end already :D
