RE: Three Tune Tuesday + HBI giveaway!

in Ladies of Hive2 years ago

Some great tunes here I love that Sleaford Mods one, I'm glad you're liking them, they're a really cool band! Also, Electric Six are so funny my band actually supported them 3 years ago in Belfast and Dublin, which was sick, then Covid ruined everything, but, we're on our back up, supporting some big bands in a few upcoming gigs!

1./ I think when I'm a bit overwhelmed, music helps, either listening to headphones and daydreaming, or playing it, or writing, that's a big one too, anything creative really I think is important.

2./ MDMA, LOL, nah, well... haha no. Probably not the healthiest method. A friend of mine never talks about serious stuff unless he's had a few drinks, he's not the most confident person and in general, he doesn't come out and say anything, sometimes it's like pulling teeth. I could talk to a brick wall, so being quiet about things has never been my thing. I think for anyone's mental health, it's important to voice issues, but, each person is different so kind of has to be treated differently. I've known the guy since we were both 7 so I can kind of deal with him, we act accordingly, depending on the issue. Friendships and close bonds I think are the only way for some people to get through an issue with someone they trust.

3./ I think the whole "Manly" idea is a con, to be honest. I think it's ego-driven and a way for hustlers to sell their manly course to unconfident lonely guys. Alphas exist... in the wild, with pack animals and some solitary animals that live together. There will always be the Top Dog, and when cats live together there has to be a Top Cat. But, humans aren't pack animals, we're very community driven. Even since the caveman days. If someone is lacking in confidence they're never gonna be the macho man, no matter how many books they read, people need to be themselves and express themselves their own way, instead of following the latest trend or wishing they were someone else.

4./ No comment. Hahaha, lots of stuff, to be honest. I'm kind of worried, but, I hope they're a musician or if they at least hang out with that kind of crowd everything will be fine... I hope. As long as they have good friends around them in general I don't think there's much to worry about. Me and my mates were pretty mischievous, but, we never hurt anyone and there are plenty of fond, albeit foggy memories.

5./ Wow, I'm actually drawing a blank on this one. It should be the easiest haha. I don't know why, but, the scene from The Simpsons popped into my head when Homer thinks about the advice his dad gave him. "Homer, you're dumb as a mule and twice as ugly. If some stranger offers you a lift, I say take it!"

Okay, I have one, but, it needs some context. So, back in college I was trying to find a documentary filmmaker to interview, but, couldn't, I was going to fail my class because of it, everyone had theirs done bar me. So, I wrote a script and got a friend of mine to wear a shirt and tie and impersonate this fake person I made up, talking about some fake documentary he made. But, during the interview, he improvised some stuff and one thing always stuck with me. It's about filmmaking, but, I think could be used for advice in any field.

"If you're making films, it's improbable that you would ever make a masterpiece with your first one. The first, second, and third may be bad, but you need to do them to get to the fourth, fifth, and sixth. Because when you get there you'll notice that you're getting somewhere." This is true, with everything, never bank on the first attempt at something, just know that each step forward is a step in the right direction.

This is a long comment, but, they were very thought-provoking questions and a really great post! Sorry for the essay.

No shit man, that's cool, hopefully ye start growing again and get some good gigs, best of luck with it.

Too right man, I don't know if you're a fan of Bad Manners, but we're supporting them at the end of November, in Belfast, Dublin and then in Monroes in Galway on the saturday! It's going to be sick!

DUDE! I am blown away by this AMAZING comment! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer not one, but all five of my questions! I had such a great time reading your responses, I appreciate you sharing all that with me 😁 The part about electric six is so cool!!

I couldn't agree more on music therapy- I don't play an instrument but I like to (badly) sing 😂 My hubs plays the drums, and the 4yo has taken an interest in a keyboard we have in the basement... so maybe I'll have a band one day too lol!

Your answers to 2 and 3 really made me nod along, yep- homie is spiting some solid truths! I had almost included in question 2 "How do we support men in being vulnerable, without making them uncomfortable?" 😂 Man, it's funny but also, it's not, ya know?

I think a big message shines through in what you said- just create space for men to feel safe in. That's legit, because it's THEIR journey. Reminds me of a convo I was having yesterday, which in summary was about offering information and being there, without our ego butting in to change the interaction. Can apply to all sorts of human connections :)

It sounds like you don't buy into the BS of believing you have to be one thing or another to be "enough" of a man- hell yeah! I hope that becomes a trend in our lifetime. Just people being their damn selves!

I can promise you one thing about being a parent, your kid will do all sorts of things you could never imagine now. It will be magical and awesome, no matter what direction they gravitate towards. I'm betting you will get a musician like you're hoping though, I've never met a kid that didn't love music! Hubs is already teaching the 1yr drums 😂 found baby sized drum sticks somewhere- ugh my heart! haha

Your answer to 5- wow, that was a ride! So many gems there- your friends improv was SICK! It's so cool that you got it on film- could see it as a fun intro or cut on a future album lol

Thanks again for this epic comment, and I guess now I'll have to apologize for typing so much 😂 !PIZZA
