What women can do: I learn to weld with the welding course! (ENG/ESP)

Today I believe there are no jobs just for men or just for women but in the common register some jobs are, until a few years ago for example there were very few male nurses and care work was considered exclusively female, few women they drove buses or taxis etc... Some jobs are considered more masculine or feminine because we have been used to considering them as such, in Italy there is still a bit of this mentality but fortunately less and less.

When I decided to learn to weld, intrigued by a manual profession that I had never done but which I would like to learn, various people told me that it was strange because it is not a female profession. Luckily I didn't listen to their opinions! For many, welding remains a male profession and in fact the majority of welders are men, I myself am currently the only woman in the saladutara course but in reality it is a profession that men and women do and there are excellent women welders! At the moment I'm learning to electrode weld, it's not easy but I enjoy it, the first cords I made looked like long rows of boogers but now I'm learning to be more precise, I've learned to file the pieces, use the grinding wheel and the cutter, I still have some difficulty filing by hand though! As for welding, I'm slowly getting better at welding, at the moment we're welding angular pieces and the objective of this first part of the lesson is to electrode weld a small stool, then we'll also learn to weld with wire which everyone says is easier than with electrode. And then at the end of the course we will do an internship in the workshop, during the course almost no one makes me feel judged because I am the only woman.

Of course there may be a few jokes but nothing serious. Little by little I will learn to solder well too and who knows this might become my job, why not? I leave you with some photos of my welding "outfits" (we have all the right protective equipment, shoes, overalls, laps and hand masks, unfortunately we don't have helmets) and of the laboratory where I practice!

Awesome @noemilunastorta
What kind of welding work do you prefer to work in? Structural Steel/building, Automotive, ship building/repair, heavy machinery, other?

Actually I will be happy is I can adjust a a gate or create a stool or some piece of furniture, but I would like to learn how to precision weld on copper and bronze. At the moment we are beginners they only make us solder small pieces of iron.❤️

Good for you! I have been around welders all my working life and yes there has only been a handful.
Solderers on the other hand is mostly women, at least here in Scotland. Both my wife and I can solder and that is work at the moment, and I can say that in the last decade it is mostly females that I have come across!

So cool in Italy the situation unfortunately it's different 😭

Saludos

Soldering is good both for a hobby, or simply for a household activity (fixing/making something for yourself, or for your loved ones/friends), and it is also good for a job/profession too.

Welding is very good for a job/profession.

Both of these things are paying well, if you do it good/properly.
