Nooo waayyy, @elizabethbit! Pure skills! I coudn't imagine cutting my own hair except for the few times I was frustrated with my split ends. But nothing fancy just some straight cut to remove the damaged ends.

Back when I lived in Ohio many years ago, I used to have a hairdresser who did my hair just right. I would watch in the mirror as she cut it.
I then began cutting my husband's hair as well as my children, using the techniques I had watched her use on my hair.
When we moved, I could find no one who seemed to know what I wanted, so I began doing it myself. If you watch long enough, you can do it. I also seem to be able to see things both from the front and 'backwards' if you will, like watching in a mirror. I realized this when I watch my husband play his guitar and I know what chord he's doing by his finger positions. Keeping in mind, I see it backwards, so to speak, so somehow, my brain can turn that around. It's interesting to me....
