Yeah, I bought a high end scanner about 8 years ago to scan in the 2500 some slides. Some were in pretty good shape but time had taken its toll. The scanner software and Adobe Lightroom helped me restore a lot of them.
That's just the slides. I have a few thousand prints and negatives from my parents and grandparents. My dad was really into it like you said. Plus I have a few hundred of my own prints before I went digital. π

My parents also take care the prints so well but the negatives were all gone π.
