That's so cool! I live in the state of Goiás, it's very close to Brasília! I think we have some friends in these states that you'll be in! @xlety @michupa which state do you live in?

I live in Minas Gerais. Hey @godfish, if you pass by Juiz de Fora, I'll buy you a beer!

Oh, I've just noted this one! Deal!

(and I'll teach you a bit of beer theory - until my girlfriend kicks me under the table to tell me I am unpolite yet 😜)

Both @michupa and I live in Juiz de Fora, so if you decide to visit, we’ll welcome you with open arms—feel free to come by!

Is there a craft microbrewery in your town?

Yes, a lot of them! including Cervejaria Mirante, which is located in one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the city, on a lookout along the BR-040 highway. It’s also a brewing school!

Wow, now you got my attention! ;)

Ahhh I need to memorize better the place where people live kkkk

I live in the Czech Republic :)

That's great, it will be a very interesting experience for you! Brazil is beautiful, its people are very lively, I hope you enjoy your time here!

Well, I hope so either :) Now I have to get several shots that are recommended.

On the other hand, Brazil is one of the least safe countries in the world, considering the crime rate. I was told I shouldn't take pictures at the street, otherwise someone might just grab the phone or camera from my hand. Is that true?

Look, unfortunately it's true, especially in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. I've never been to these states, so I don't know their exact reality, but what I always hear and see is that they are two complicated states in terms of crime.

That gives another meaning to "people are very lively there" :))

I think, for better or worse, there's a lot of animation there, so you can't be too careful

Big cities are dangerous for those who aren't attentive. I've never been robbed or experienced anything similar; my state is a safe place. However, I’d be more cautious in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Well, I've neber been pickpocketed or robbed, and I don't really pay attention :))

Which state do you live in?

I saw that you're planning to visit Belo Horizonte, the capital of my state. It's not the friendliest place either. It’s not crazy dangerous, but big cities are generally riskier. Here in Minas Gerais, we have beautiful towns like Ibitipoca, Carrancas and Capitólio.

I live in Minas Gerais.

I think it's a good idea to be careful with your cell phone/camera on the streets of these two states. Whenever you take a photo, make sure there's no one watching you or tagging you. If you can go to places in a group, it's better, as you can all help protect yourselves.

Well, that's quite scary, actually. I am used to leaving my laptop and iPhone on the table in a library of a café when I need to use the bathroom, and would never expect people to just grab them.

This kind of attitude can be dangerous around here, not that it will actually happen, but it's always good to keep an eye on everything, just don't hesitate with your valuables.

How about violent crimes. Is it more likely to get pickpoketed (non-violent crime) or robbed (a crime with a violent threat - give me all your belongings!)?

Consider i speak Spanish (and my girlfriend is Spanish), so we would likely look less touristy than the typical "gringo". She can speak kinda portugaňol, I do understand a bit of portuguese, but can only speak Spanish.

I think it is more likely that robberies happen, but I don't know for sure. I would have to research the information in this regard to be more certain. I believe that violent crimes happen closer to the favelas.

I would suggest swapping Belo Horizonte for Juiz de Fora, is much cozier, the people are kinder, the city is beautiful, and it's closer to Rio. Belo Horizonte, despite being the capital, isn’t really worth it.

Well, from Belo Horizonte, I can take a direct flight to Brazilia. That is a huge advantage ;)
