Where I grew up, almost everyone had a basement, but it was usually an unfinished space used for storage, utilities, and perhaps laundry. It was also cool in summer. Oh, yeah, AC meant wealth. An "upstairs" as either an old farmhouse or yeah, probably rich people in comparison.

Basements are cool, especially when some people use them as an activity area... and yes, having an A/C means you're rich, too! haha
Ohh... I remember when I was in elementary school, when you had sneakers that could turn into roller skates, you're rich! XD
