Tsuchinshan-ATLAS Comet photos

in Ecency2 months ago

I am posting into Ecency Community Hive-125125. It is a general topic community with few restrictions. Everyone is welcome.

Have you seen comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS yet?

It is the brightest comet in a decade.
NASA said the comet last passed by Earth 80,000 years ago and may never return as the latest data shows its path may take it out of our solar system altogether.

Several neighbors walked up to the top of the hill to see what could be seen.

Ai tells me that "A comet is a small, icy body that orbits the Sun and develops a visible tail of gas and dust when it gets close enough to the Sun, appearing as a glowing streak in the sky; essentially a "dirty snowball" made of ice, rock, and dust left over from the solar system's formation.'

Sunday October 20th provides one of the darkest skies yet in which to see comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS with the naked eye

After that, it will be visible only with binoculars for the rest of October and into early November. A telescope will be needed after that

With its 80,000-year orbit, the last people to have seen the comet from Earth were the Neanderthals.

.

These photos were all taken on Wednesday Oct. 16. It's also 2024's brightest full 'supermoon' of the year. The Hunters Moon. The moon was bleaching the night sky of the darkness necessary to see the comet, but I was happy with the cell phone photos! Especially considering the comet is 673,923,912 kilometers away!

Comets are magical things when you can see them. So glad you did!

Seeing views like this makes you think about how incomprehensible the size of the universe is.

Absolutely, it blows you away to think on it

Awesome! I looked so many times without any luck lol Seems like right when the sun is starting to set is the best time not after dark.

Yes, it's very low on the horizon, too. By the time it gets dark it has already dipped below the horizon here in Wisconsin.

Great!
And I never saw this comet. I think I'll see her in 80k years. 😂

Great photos. Just think about it, such an event can only be seen once in a lifetime.

It's pretty incredible, isn't it? The comet is quickly moving out of sight of the earth.

Pretty interesting read about the comet! Is it visible from all part of the world? I never tried to see it!

I am not sure, but it may have been visible in the southern hemisphere earlier in the month. It is quickly moving out of sight of the earth.

Great photos. Unfortunately, I missed the opportunity to see it in the UK because of cloud cover. Being at a higher latitude than Wisconsin, I don't think I'll have another chance to see this comet. Hopefully, more comets will be available.

I just was reading about a Halloween comet that will be visible early morning during daylight hours in the east. I don't know much else about it.

Thank you. I'll see if I can find some information about viewing it in the UK.

Moon has many hidden powers and sun also has powers. Comet orbit around the sun and when it strikes with it, its tails looks awesome view. Many people's wants to see this.

It is awesome to see!

Gracias por compartir tus fotos, ademas muchas felicidades por ser testigo de tan importante evento astrológico

The supermoon was beautiful! I hope you do get to see a comet someday.

Nice comet photos. I thought I had missed it but sounds like tonight is still a good night. I will give it a try.

I hope you get to see it!

Lovely photos! I'm glad your comet expedition was successful! 😃

Thanks! It was a special treat from the Universe!

The last time I saw something like that was probably two decades ago, though it might’ve been a meteor shower, I’m a bit unsure on the details. Since childhood, one of my hobbies is watching the night sky and I always looked forward to these kinds of phenomenon. I really hope I get to experience something like this again one day 😁

The night sky is pretty amazing! So many people don't take the time to look up.

Right! The night sky is incredible, there's something humbling and awe-inspiring about just taking a moment to look up and appreciate the vastness above us.

Awesome! It's pretty cool

The universe is amazing!

We can see it arou d 30,000 years later on the earth, right? Wow! !BEER !INDEED

They think this one is heading to a different galaxy and will never be visible on earth again. ☄️

80k years? That's some long time away! You are lucky that you witnessed this, it is epochal!

It may head to a different galaxy and never come around again. It's impossible for me to comprehend the vastness of the universe.
