That's very kind, and I'm not sure. I'm trying to use this present phone for as long as it is still fully functional. Once it start to fail in any important regard, then I'd get a new one, but this time not through the phone carrier, but rather online, so that I can get the model that I want with an unlocked bootloader. I used to publish posts on Linux, so posting about my adventures with my new phone wouldn't be difficult. πππβ¨π€

It looks like what you mean is that you can already purchase a new phone with an unlocked bootloader when you want to, though it would take a significant portion of your investments (on Hive and outside Hive). π€π€―π€

Well, yes, I could afford it, but it would be at least $100, and probably more, so I'm just using this phone as much as I can before spending more.

Yes, that's likely true. I'll definitely need to spend more to get the kind of phone to which I'm accustomed. I usually get them through the carrier, which gives upgrade discounts, so I've usually gotten new phones for just over $100. π π π β¨ π€

Yes, there are indeed drawbacks to getting a phone through the carrier, the most important of which is they lock all the bootloaders! They also load the phone will all sorts of apps that I don't need or want, and without root access, that I can't uninstall! πππβ¨π€
