SUMMER OF COVID-19: HOW I'M MAINTAINING MY FITNESS & HEALTH - MY DIABETES JOURNEY - AUGUST

I'm a bit late this month in getting my report completed. For those of you who don't know me or may not have been with me in the beginning of my journey, in May, 2019, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. At that time, I was registering an:

A1C, or the blood glucose level, of: 288.

This number was dangerously high. According to my doctor, I needed to lower it by almost 200 points.

For months I didn't take my illness seriously. Then, in the Fall of 2019, I became quiet ill. It was then my doctor informed me that my Diabetes was getting worse, not better. I could be elevated to Type 1 and would have to start receiving insulin treatments.

I have a family history of Diabetes. My oldest sister passed away at the young age of 50 from Type 1 Diabetes. My doctor's news gave me a reality check. I finally decided that I needed to make positive change.

Last December, I published a post advising of my New Year's resolution for 2020.1

Then in January, 2020 I started my plan to monitor my A1C levels daily to ensure I was on track. Because of spikes due to various other underlying illnesses, I decided to monitor each day, but track my progress monthly to get a more concise picture.

I've almost reached my GOAL.

My Type 2 Diabetes AIC LEVEL HAS BEEN:

REDUCED BY: 190 POINTS

ONLY 10 POINTS TO GO!

EXERCISE

My doctor's primary concern is my osteoarthritis in both knees, shoulders and back. My nutritionist recommended joining a gym. However, with our current situation due to COVID-19, that is not an option. I feel I now have everything I need at home to work with.

I recently added equipment for low impact exercise. I've started my routine three times a week for 45 minutes a day total on all my equipment. To warm up, I use the exercise mat for my floor routine.

  • Exercise bike:

  • Total Gym Equipment:

20200707_1507361.jpg

  • Exercise trampoline.

Yes, a trampoline. There are numerous ways to utilize it. The best thing is I can use this equipment indoors.

HEALTH

I'm doing well with my diet regimen. I'm feeling much better healthwise as far as my Diabetes is concerned. But I still suffer with severe sinus problems that causes setbacks. I will continue to do my best to maintain my health.

And trying to steer clear of COVID-19 due to my underlying conditions, BECAUSE,

Its great that you have taken it seriously and putting the efforts and the resuts are in front of you. Dont shot even after getung the goal.. Best of luck for the coming days....

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop in and view my content for my health issue. I appreciate your kind words. I can't stop. Getting to 88 is the goal, but in order to maintain it, I must keep going. There is no cure, only maintenance. I return to the doctor next month to see if I can reduce some of the meds. I'm hopeful.

Take care and have a great rest of your upcoming week.

Great.... you are doing a wonderful job...
Its very good that you are able to reduce the A1C level to 98.... physical work and some natural medicine are the best practices to control the diabetic....
!bro

I'm trying different natural medicines.

Bro Fist accepted. Thanks for the gift and support. I appreciate it.

Informative and motivation post...
Its good that you are daily taking the reading and in this way you can check the daily/weekly progress.. Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much @gurseerat Seeing my numbers on a daily basis allows me to check whether something is not right that day or whether I'm getting sick and my numbers are going up. It's a great alert system for me because whenever I get a sinus infection, my A1C level rises 10 points immediately. So, as I said other factors influence my progress.

I appreciate you stopping by to view my progress. Take care yourself and stay safe.

Great.... you are doing a wonderful job...

Yes, I try not to take as much medicine, but I have other underlying conditions such as thyroids and heart problems, so all this just works to make my Diabetes even worse.

But I'll keep trying.

My mom also have diabetes

Sorry to hear it. Is she taking good care of herself? or are you helping her? I hope all is well with her. It's something we will live with the rest of our lives. There is no cure. We can only manage it as best we can.

Thanks for sharing.

If we try to make her take care of herself. Although sometimes it makes us complicated because of the food issue here in Venezuela

I understand about the numerous issues in your country. Hope things get better soon and you can obtain some healthy food choices for mom.

Take care both of you.

That is my greatest wish. To be able to have a good diet for her and her diabetes and for me to lose weight

I understand. It's really hard when you don't have the necessary nutritional foods for a balanced meal each day. I'm sending prayers for you and your mom. I know first hand how difficult it is without the right resources. It's not just in your country, but all over the world the need is great.

So is. I know that everything is being quite difficult all over the world ... Believe me that is why I am here living in Venezuela is not easy and a month's salary is like $ 3 here if I do things well I can get a little more to be able to buy some food

Oh and I forgot to mention- dancing!

Dance the day away and you will feel incredible in both mind and body, I know that I do.

This is what I do every day, I start of with this wonderful Free QiGong on youtube https://www.yoqi.com/free-videos to warm up with and then dancing with Misty and the gang at BodyGroove https://www.bodygrooveondemand.com/

I HATE exercise, but I love dancing...🤣

None of that me, sorry. I've severe arthritis in both knees, back and shoulder, hands. I'm a mess, a wrecking ball, but I'm alive.

Well honey if you give that TumeriX a go, then that might fix your arthritis, which will get you up and dancing!

And by the way, there's also numerous older people and those with physical ailments that do bodygroove from all over the world, they just do it from a chair, which is more than acceptable.

There's probably just as many people on the bodygroove FB page than there is here on hive, if not more...and they are everyone- from every where, at every age and every size and every physical ailment that you can think of- including myself...and don't forget the Fenugreek too and let me know how you go. Unfortunately I might need it myself one day.

Goodluck to you, you come so far already, so I'm sure that you are up for a challenge- baby steps though...😀

Congrats on bringing your AIC down by 190 points that is amazing. With a good diet and exercise I know you can keep it down and keep your diabetes under control. I know people who have diabetes and eat tons of junk food, they try to control it with insulin and I think you are way better off eating healthy and keeping it under control.

Hello @maddogmike Nice to hear from you. It's been a while. Hope you have been doing well. Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your kind words. I've been trying since January. I think I finally have a handle on it. I hope next month's doctor's appointment will be favorable so that I can reduce some of the medications I take for it.

The think is I love food. I just need to eat the right types of food. I fear taking insulin because I think that once I start, there's no turning back from that.

Take care, and stay safe.

Well done! It really is so important to take care of one's health, in all times, but especially now. My dad was diagnosed pre-diabetic at the beginning of the year. He and I had a long chat about fitness and nutrition before he set to work. As of now I believe he's lost almost 30 pounds and his numbers are back in the healthy range! He walks a few miles daily, lifts weights for about 30 minutes 6 days a week, and he's about 70% plant-based with his diet. Makes me feel so much better knowing he and my mother are taking better care of themselves. Keep up the great work!

Posted using Dapplr

That is awesome so hear about your dad. And your mom also. Sounds like he has a great plan in place to keep his levels down.

I have a family history with other underlying ailments that complicate my diabetes. With only 10 points to go to an acceptable level, I still have to maintain that level.

Any major sinus/bronchitis attack will just skyrocket my levels. I can't get my steroid injections to benefit those ailments since it contributes to elevated A1C numbers. I also have family history of heart issues. So trying to cure one ailment, makes another worse. Which do I choose? I discontinued the steroid injections. I'm managing as best I can.

That's why I had to make the decision to remove myself from the fray of outside mingling with friends and family. I'm at high risk for virus infection. I don't mind staying in as long as I know I'm trying to protect myself and my family from infection form the virus.

Keep working with your dad and mom. Their healthy choices and habits will benefit them so they will be with you as long as they can.

Thanks for sharing your family's story. Take care, and stay safe you and your family.

Ooh, that is a challenge when you have a few different things to manage, but sounds like you are finding a good balance! My mom has had high blood pressure for years, so we're trying to keep her safely away from the rest of the population as much as possible since she is at a higher risk for any Covid complications if she contracts it. She's been trying for years to find her healthy routine, but having my dad make his own changes has been great for her, as well. It helps a lot when all members in the household are on the same plan! My niece is only 4 now, so I think that was a big motivator for both of them. They want to be around to watch her grow up.

Yes, all family members have to be on the same page to protect and help each other. I have HBP also and Thyroids. All are family history of these.

Trying as best I can. Thanks so much.

Excelente para mejorar la salud de tu organismo

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading my Diabetes journey and health plan. I appreciate your kind words. I'm trying hard to reach my goal, and then maintain my level.

Muchas gracias por pasar y leer mi viaje de la diabetes y mi plan de salud. Aprecio sus amables palabras. Me esfuerzo por alcanzar mi objetivo, y luego mantener mi nivel.

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide.

Thanks so much for bringing me good news of a TIP from iamalivechalleng. Truly appreciate it.

My type 2 diabetes went away after I lost 40 kilo's with my Gastric Bypass operation - I haven't regretted making that decision for a moment :)

That is wonderful to hear. I know the decision to undergo that type of surgery is a personal one. I know several friends who have done the same. They look and feel amazing now.

Even after getting my AIC level down to acceptable levels, I will still have to maintain that level.

65 is the best yet, you do great , and the equipment i am very envious about, is that in a garage or outside, i cant see. And only ten points left to 200, wil that reduce medicine? I think you are one of the most conscious people i know trying to deal with health, i have a plan aswell i want to loose weight, so starting tomorrow i am on it.
Keep you posted

Hi. My trampoline can be used indoors or outside. That's great when we have inclement weather. My large exercise equipment is in my garage. I can just raise the garage door and wave at neighbors passing by while I'm exercising. No knee exercises on that particular equipment.

My exercise bike is the best option with less stress on the knees. I can sit in the screened porch and not have to worry about bugs getting too close.

Yes, I'm happy with only 10 points remaining. It's like pulling teeth though.

As far as my medicines are concerned, I'm hoping to be able to reduce some of them.

That's great you're starting you plan for weight loss. Good luck to you.

Take care.

As I said before I love the equipment. I have a few things but not big things we do have a bike but it’s hubbys maybe I should train on it aswell 🧐 I am starting today and I hope my sugar addiction can be reduced or be beat but I am a suggest lover so it will be a fight

Thanks a lot for sharing about your diabetes Chris, and great to see that you are making steady progress, and nice that you are exercising indoors, all the best wishes of good health to you, and stay safe, awesome and alive.

Step by step until you are a whale @justclickindiva 🙂😉

@justclickindiva, thank you for sharing and more importantly, thank you for motivating me to get my health under control.

Diabetes is a terrible illness. My mum was a diabetic for 30yrs bit controlled it with diet and medication, then for the last 2 yrs of her life, she had to go onto insulin injections and then when she got sick with cancer- wow, the diabetes really kicked into high gear then as cancer is an infection and infections naturally make the blood sugar rise, so I was having to give her incredible amounts of insulin at all times during the day cause it was such a rollercoaster and some of the Hypos and the hypers nearly killed her before the cancer did...

So I gave her **TumeriX ** https://buyturmerix.com/ and that made an incredible difference, not only to her diabetes, but also her arthritis and the tumours in her lungs and it only took 3 days to notice a huge difference.

A few of the nurses that were looking after her during some of her hospitals stays were originally from India and they recommended Fenugreek and said that most people drink it in India every day to keep the blood sugar level. Have you ever tried that?

I look forward to speaking with you again soon and congratulations on achieving your goals! 😊 Stay safe and stay motivated!

Thank you so much for the engagement on this issue. I know about Tumerix. But I didn't know about Fenugreek. You are 100% correct in that any other underlying condition makes Diabetes harder. That is what I'm battling right now with sinus infections, thyroids, and heart problems, in addition to arthritis.

I had to stop the steroid shots for sinus infection because it raises my A1C level 100 points each dosage. Then it takes 6 months to get it back down. It's a roller coaster because the treatment for one ailment affects another ailment the opposite direction.

So glad you understand that. And that issue is what makes it so hard to deal with Diabetes itself.

Stay really safe and in good condition with the doctors recommendations moreover on nowadays crisis, hugs 😚

I'm trying every day. I have to take some time away from the computer instead of sitting here all day online.

Yes, is better staying healthy and to not forget us.

Hello, friend, I wish you could continue with your diet and exercise regime, so you can get through this stage of your diabetes.

I certainly hope so friend. Thanks so much for stopping by and viewing my journey. It's a lifestyle change I definitely mean to stick with it.
