s a kid, my dad used to hate it if we wore a hat inside the house
This was something I wasn't really taught and there was a teacher that was older I had in high school that took my hat from me one day and didn't give it back until the end of the semester. Kids these days would probably sue him for abuse or something but we still respected teachers back then. I apologized but he stood by his guns and taught me a lesson. It's not like the ball cap was expensive and I kind of look back and kick myself for wearing a hat at all because I had such a glorious hairline back then, LOL.
This taking off of hat culture is alive and well in Mexico, almost every restaurant that I went to provided hat racks for all tables because as you may have seen, Mexican culture is one of some pretty awesome and quite expensive Stetson hats I believe they are called.
Being polite is free and I try to incorporate that into every aspect of my life. Being in Asia, people are kind of polite by default and I like that. I do feel like we kind of lost are way in many western countries and that is a shame.
I think Latin cultures in general tend to put a greater focus on family and because of that many of these respect things are pushed down from multiple generations, not just a parent telling you what to do. Kids can have a pretty easy time ignoring mom and dad, but when grandma or grandpa tells you something you best listen! It's definitely sad that we have gotten to where we are today. Working in a school we tend to see some of the worst examples!
