Amazing Nature Contest - January 2021 - #02

Walking through any region with flowers makes one want to sing with joy, deep seated satisfaction derived in simple joy being surrounded by colours, perfumes, shared with not only the butterflies and bees.

Blyde Protea or Protea laetans a summer rainfall Protea growing in the Drakensberg is the closest species of Protea I could identify with, only used for firewood (which is a cause for concern threatening wild plants), no medicinal purposes. SA People - Proteas

It matters not the stature it all boils down to delight, whether standing alone or playfully waving their blooms together in a massive cluster of beauty.

0041Moraea African Iris.JPG

Moraea huttonii - African Iris stands about 120 cm tall fully established aparently reach 1 meter. With three Moraea in South Africa, this was flowering in October may be the Moraea huttonii, consisting of no specific medicinal uses. Moraea

0813.JPG

The Moraea spathulata flowering in November is used to treat infertility in traditional medicines or used to make ropes. Third is Moraea reticulata flowering in February with no known uses either.

Ability to grow in a charming garden, or rough it out on rocky ridges, close to the ground or reaching up on high, some may last a lot longer each has an ability to thrive, feed, nourish before the day is done.

Close to the water but not on the lake a mass of Yellow flag iris plants - Iris pseudacorus standing 1 - 2 meters tall, very much taller than our local African iris. This plant needs to be watched or removed being invasive, removing the plant may cause skin irritation. Grand display being a large patch all together in the center of a lawn.

How similar flowers can look, each different never the same, beauty in the eye of the beholder, I hope these flowers bring a little joy in a time when not everyone is feeling as bright and cheerful, today smiling flowers may be gone tomorrow.

Beautiful flowers, Joan, I like them all a lot, but I think the last photo is my favourite - the yellow African Iris has an interesting shaped blossom, cool petals, but the Blade Protea looks cool too, of course 😊

Cheers and !BEER

Yellow flag iris most definitely made a good pic I did not even need to bend to capture, being framed with with dark green sword leaves they were stunning in this garden.

We have a wonderful array of Protea and Suikerbos/Fynbos plants, very small variety live in summer rainfall region. Not only found in South Africa but the Southern Hemisphere.

Sending warm wishes Johann, have a wonderful day.
Prohibition !BEER coming your way....

Yes, these are really wonderful flowers you have down there in the south.

I thank you, wish you a great weekend and send you a !BEER back from a country that would either stop selling toilet paper than stop selling alcohol, cheers 😁

My mother has always called iris' Flags. She lumped them all together under the "flag!" I thought it was a cool name when I was a kid and here it was a real name.

Hi, Joan! :)

Never too old to learn, many varieties of iris, wonderful stories attached to this species of plant. There is a Blue flag iris as well Denise, great to see you and trust you and family are well, new year feels much like the old year, keep smiling and we will do fine!

You're welcome @joanstewart, nice job, keep going this way 😊👍

How beautiful is that first flower never seen one of those before not only you have the most awesome animals over there but your flowers from there are just generous 😉

Some flowers reveal such unusual design one has to stop and take a closer look, we are spoiled in many ways with the nature around us. Thanks for visiting and kind comments.

You are truly right @joanstewart there has been times when i thought some flower were not real because of there peculiar design i have had to actually touch them to convince myself.

Agreed, especially the waxy looking plants give an almost artificial look, double check for yourself hoping no one has you on candid camera 😀

Haha....i think i have been caught on candid camera already in a few hotels and resorts where i have seen some of these artificial looking flowers which have turned out to be real flowers...lol 😆

Egg on the face feeling, some sure do catch us unawares 🤣
