Amazing Nature in the Badlands

Amazing Nature ContestThis is my entry for @adalger's

These photos were taken in Badlands National Park in South Dakota, USA.

I can see why the area was referred to as bad land by the native Americans and how it must have been difficult to cross on horse back or in a wagon by pioneers who were heading West. There was no water and they must have felt like they were on Mars!

But today the Badlands Loop Road (Highway 240) winds past scenic lookouts, layered rock formations, towering spires and steep canyons and is a fascinating journey through this incredible landscape.

These formations are the result of erosion, and many fossils have been found here.

We intentionally stayed in the park to watch the sunset and seeing the glow spread upon the rocks was a gorgeous sight to see.

We were able to drive up to that area for weekend vacation this past summer. Loved it. Plan to make another trip to see more of it. Great pics!

Thanks. I've been there a few times over the years and think it is fascinating and so beautiful. I'd love to go back again.

Nature love

Nature is amazing!

These are some beauty photos if I do say so myself! 😊

All the photos are beautiful, but the last one is my favorite

Thanks so much. That last photo is the last one I took as we were leaving the park.

It is a beautiful park. Well and your photos that are always so wonderful💕

Interesting formation of rocks. The sunset is gorgeous and the way the sun shines upon the rocks and change their colours is breathtaking.

I do find the geology of this area fascinating. The rattlesnakes that live here do not fascinate me, though!

Oh, good to know about the snakes. That definitely will not fascinate me either.

Seeing this back in the days must have be a little shock to the pioneers, hehe ^^ .. I wonder if there was a big lake or broad river once in this area that formed these rocky formations. They look really interesting

You are right. This was an ancient lake bed.

Pretty dry landscape but beautiful 👍

Lots of great photo ops!

And enjoyed looking at them all 👍

Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

I took the scenic route through the badlands and thought we would die in there. lol It took hours to get out of there thanks to an Indian that told us the right road to take.

Ha! The loop road is only 40 miles long! Glad you found the way out!

Awesome pretty amazing nature photography.

Thank you! 😘

Beautiful photography Melinda. The Badlands may be difficult to travel but I love the look of the area and the sunset.

Cool 😎 I went to the BADLANDS with my wife 20 years ago before we got married! It was awesome.

Isn't it an incredible place? It rates right up there as one of my favorite parks.

Good morning HIVE!! 4qosn1.jpg
