Hey there Hivers, it's alme here back with another blog! If you guys would like to start crocheting, maybe this blog would help you big time hehe. This isn't just an ordinary blog, it's a blog about crocheting for the very first time! If I may, I'll be your guide in the world of crocheting. Alme at your service!
Being a beginner at something is never easy. Doing it on your own AND learning on your own makes it even harder. I've been crocheting for almost 2 years now, and it is something that I am so grateful for when it comes to starting and learning it.
As a beginner in anything, we tend to ask ourselves "What should I do first?". That's where I come in to help. If we're going to start a hobby, of course, we're going to buy the materials we need. Here's a list of things that a beginner needs before they start crocheting:
YARN
There are many types of yarn, which range from thin to chunky. There are even different textures of yarn! Before we get to use those yarns, we'll start with yarn that is suitable for beginners, easy to get, and super budget-friendly.
Acrylic yarns are one of the most affordable yarns out there. Although it is a bit controversial in the crochet community when it comes to using acrylic yarn because it is not "natural" yarn, it is the most beginner-friendly yarn out there and that is why I am recommending it.
Make sure to use acrylic yarn with the utmost discretion, and reuse and recycle the scraps of yarn that are left from different projects. For example: using scrap yarn as filler for amigurumi projects.
The upsides of acrylic yarn are that it is quite durable and is good for amigurumi work because it holds its shape quite well.
The yarn I highly recommend for beginners is the 3 and 4-ply yarns made by Monaco. They cost around P15-30 (0.26-0.55 American Dollars). It fits all 3 of my criteria for yarns, plus they have a huge array of colors. Different shades of colors from nave blue to baby blue or from vibrant violet to a beautiful lavender. Their yarns are mostly made out of acrylic.
CROCHET HOOK
I have 5 different crochet hooks as of now, but when I started crocheting I only had 2 hooks that were with me through thick and thin lol. They've gone through a lot of crocheting with me and will continue to do so (hopefully). The sizes of these particular hooks are 3.0 and 3.5, which are perfect for the 3-ply yarn I had back then for making amigurumi.
Now, you may be confused about what in the world I was yapping about. But I am here to erase that confusion. There are different sizes of hooks for different types of yarn. The plys of yarn are printed on the band that comes with the yarn. And the picture above is an example.
The amount of plys in the yarn is correlated with the hook number that we crocheters have to use. Here's a table:

CROCHET NEEDLE/BIG SEWING NEEDLE
When I first started crocheting, I never really thought that sewing was included when it came to crocheting. Needles are needed in crocheting when we need to fuse different crocheted parts into one. The needles are also used like it's supposed to be used in normal fabric, for sewing in buttons and other stuff. The crochet needles are pretty useful when it comes to finishing a project. It holds your projects together basically :)
SEWING PINS
Yes, sewing pins are also needed when it comes to crocheting. You may ask "Why are there so many sewing thingies we need in crocheting?" My answer to that question is that I think that crocheting is a close relative to sewing, I'd say that sewing and crocheting are cousins.
Sewing pins are used to hold down different parts and things that we want to sew into our crochet projects. An example of its use is seen in the picture above. We can see that multiple pins are used to hold down the buttons that were used for that amigurumi. The pins help us remember where we want to put and sew the things we want to put in our projects.
SCISSORS
Of course, scissors. We'll be needing scissors when we need to cut yarn. But just make sure that you have sharp scissors so that you won't have any trouble when it comes to cutting your yarns. I think I don't have to elaborate on this any further lol.
