How I Made Aprons from Old Jeans

Do you have old jeans at home that no longer fit anyone? In a large family, it often happens that someone grows taller or gains weight, leaving behind unused jeans. Instead of simply throwing them away or recycling them, I decided to give them a new life.

Why Did I Decide to Make Aprons?

When working in the garden, I always need pockets to store pieces of string, peas, scissors, or even my smartphone. So, I came up with the idea to use the jeans pockets and create a practical garden apron.

Materials:

  • Old jeans
  • Non-stretchy cotton fabric
  • Sewing machine and overlock machine
  • Scissors
  • Pins

Work Process:

  • Cut out the apron shape from the back of the jeans, keeping the pockets intact.

  • Cut 3 strips (6 cm x 75 cm) from the cotton fabric for the ruffle.

  • Cut 2 strips (9 cm x 75 cm) for the apron ties.

  • Overlock the edges of the denim apron.

  • Sew the ruffle strips together into one long strip and overlock one edge.

  • Sew the ruffle with the overlock machine to create an accordion-like effect.

  • Pin the ruffle to the apron and sew it on with a straight stitch from the top.

  • Sew the apron ties into tubes and turn them right side out.

  • Sew the ties onto the apron.

Final Result

The result is a practical and pretty garden apron full of useful pockets. I added a floral ruffle, which gave it a colorful and beautiful look.

Summary

This project turned out to be so successful that my friends immediately wanted similar aprons. So, several aprons were made, with each person bringing their own pair of old jeans. Repurposing old jeans into aprons is an easy and fun project that gives your old clothes a new life. Try it yourself - the result is both practical and stylish!

This is so creative, the floral fabric suit the Jean so well. You didn't just recycle it, you gave it a new life indeed 😍

Thanks 😊

I think I can borrow your idea. I also work in the garden and truly needs an apron with a pocket to hold some items especially my mobile device I can’t work without in the farm.
This will be very useful

Good luck in the contest.
