MAKING A NEW MALE PURSE CALLED “AKANDE”.

Beautiful morning everyone,

Happy new week my lovely needlework family. I’m super excited to be here today to share with us my recent creation which I named “Akande”. It is a male purse which I create for the first time. I normally make female purses and bags but this is the first time I will be making one for the men. This is because most of my friends are guys and I intend to target them with this design. Compared to the making of a female bag, this purse is actually simpler in creation but technical. In order to produce a good, neat and classy result, one need to be careful and get the right measurements and materials.

One major thing I changed is how thick the bag is. I realized most male purses are light and not as thick as female bags so that was the first thing I took into consideration. I was able to achieve this by replacing the fiber I use in female bags with normal cardboard paper. You see, the leathers I normally worked with are a bit thick so if I should use anther thick material inside, the bag will be stiff and not flexible which is not what I’m looking for in the bag. Flexibility is very very important in this design.

Below, I will be taking us through the process of creating this male purse. I’m so happy with how the result turned out and I can’t wait to share it with you guys.

MATERIALS USED

  • Leather of choice
  • Cardboard
  • Suade lining
  • Gum
  • Leather glue
  • Tagging pins
  • D ring
  • Anchor ring
  • Zip and zip head
  • Magnets
  • Chi board

PROCESS

  • The first thing I always do is create the bag or purse pattern. Next I cut it out on cardboard and its respective leather and linings after which I gummed them together. That is, I gummed the cardboard with the leather.

  • Next, I fixed a pair of magnets to the outer purse of the bag and I sew the purse and it’s cover to the front part of the main purse.

  • After that, I gummed the chiboard to the leather and sew it’s edges. Then I sew that part to the back part of the main purse as seen below.

  • Then I attached one D ring to the right side of the purse then I sew the sides of the short handle and fix it to the anchor ring using tagging pins.

  • Finally, I gummed the lining to the sides and the main part of the purse, sew the zip to the upper parts of the purses and then I sew the sides to the main body of the purse.

How great that men are also interested in purses. This design looks elegant and formal, anyone who has it will appear to be an important man 😃. Congratulations for the great job!

Yes o, men also want beautiful things like women. That's why I decided to expand my target audience to include them🥰.

Lol, this is absolutely right and that's exactly what the owner of this purse said. He said wherever he goes, he's going to look like a big man 😃😃.

Am still a learner in bag making and purse and I wish to know you more @gloriolar to expand my skills

Thanks for sharing to the needlework community
Nice work

Thank you so so much for the nice comment. Bag making is actually fun once you get a hang of it. The most important thing is knowing the basics then you can design just about any bag you desire.....

Welcome dear
Nice meeting you @gloriaolar

This is really beautiful, he is lucky to receive this , but this is for women. I am very interested to learn how to sew bag. I have that in my mind

He sure love the bag. But the part of it being for women, I don't fully understand you well.

About learning, there are various online classes you can take. Learning isn't difficult anymore.
