My First Crochet Project: Coffee Coaster Granny Square

Hi, Hive friends! Sharing with you my first crochet project. This is my practice just to see if I know how to follow instructions. It's like a refreshing course for me. I am now able to understand all kinds of crochet stitches but I am familiar with only four stitches.

The good thing about re-learning this is that there are several YouTube videos you can follow. I have to admit that I made mistakes along the way.

I bought a copy of 50 Deck cards of Granny Square that I can follow. I searched which one has the beginner level and I found this. The most stitches to use are double crochet, treble crochet, slip stitch, and magic ring.

Good thing, I still remember how to do the magic ring. I did the treble crochet on the first round, double crochet on the second round, treble crochet on the third round, double crochet on the fourth round, and slip stitches to end the edges of the square.

As you can see, I have trouble with my first project. I did the second granny square of the same project and decided to use it as a coffee coaster. You can see the other projects I made which I will talk about it later.

It's a small granny square and so far, it fits this coffee mug. It's just me who will use this so having two granny squares is fine. I will use the other one on my office table and the other one is for the dining table.

At least, coffee drinking at home looks fancy because of this one simple granny square. I am always excited to prepare coffee every morning just to use this.

I will try to improve this granny square for a different project.

The next projects will be:

  • A cross-body bag for my phone
  • A little bag for my daughter

I am just doing these little projects when I am not busy. I am happy to do this hobby again. I am thinking of buying more yarns for a hat project. :D

Sort:

coincidentally, my housemate is also into crocheting recently. apparently, tiktok influenced him to start.

Oh, wow! A He. I wonder what he crochets. :)

beany. scarf is next in line

Ay wow. Big project agad2. I never tried beanies and scarves. Amazing.

he made 3 beanies already. the first one was kinda a fail, but the next 2 were fine.

Not bad. Well, go for the usable crocheted items right away. Grabeh Yong level of patience nya, for sure.

My first granny square project didn't come out half as good as this... You are indeed a natural. Well done 🤝🏾

Thank you so much. I was confused and had trouble with my first granny square.

You did well and you will get better ❤️

Coincidentally my current project is these gramny squares, but I'm an apprentice, so I didn't notice anything strange about yours 🤣 I like the color scheme.

I still have a problem making it a perfect square. I will fix it later. Thank you, I love the colors, too. :)

This is beautiful And creative

Thank you so much. :)

Your granny square looks really cute and it’s hard to believe you are a first timer. I like the colour coordination you did in there. Great job and I can’t wait to see you improve.

Hello, I am not a first timer. First time I learned I was 12. Last time I did my crochet was in 2012 or 2013. Hehe. Thank you. I really need to improve. :)

Oh no, I meant first project :)
My bad, xoxo

No problem :)

How cute, it looks too beautiful to be your first project. As you keep practicing you will be able to make great things like the ones we see here everyday. Thanks for sharing :)

Thank you so much. The colors really matter, no? Yes, I need more practice. 😍

Your granny square is cutesy! My friendly tip, you should pin your granny square to the play mat foam or styro and spray it with detergent so your granny square will perfectly square.

I will try to find a place where I can pin in a mat foam. Thanks sa tips. :)
