There were many (Pinay) crocheters who expressed their difficulty to work with black yarn. In the past, I had no problem working with any color, my clients requested and black was fine for me. It wasn't until recently that I had finally accepted the fact that I'm on the stage where I had to focus more intently on the task at hand. At least during the day, I can clearly see the stitches, but at night, I can't see them clearly and have to re-do the whole thing because of a few missing stitches.
Last two days, I received an order from a customer. I was delighted of course for the transaction but I got also worried of her color choice which is BLACK! I tried to persuade her on changing it into color red but she STILL WANTED THE BLACK ONE. Okay, so I have no choice but to face the struggles of using the Black yarn during night time.
I got my 2.75mm crochet hook, my scissor, some beads (for the tassels to be decorated on the top) and of course the Black yarn.
I begin making a crochet lace doily which will be placed on the top of the croptop separately on day time since I don't want to miss a stitch for this design.
After that, I made the bottom part of the croptop starting below going up in decreasing manner. I remember doing this part one night and was thankful that the stitches were all double crochet which means I can feel the stitches with my hand and crochet even if I can't see it clearly.

Then I slowly attach first the lace doily on the left part of the top as I go upward then followed the right side, just like in the picture below.

Then the next morning, I made single crochet on the edges including two ties (on the neck part) and two holes on every side for the ties to insert at the back of the croptop for perfect fit. And made some crochet shells on the lower edge to match the design of the paired short. I also made a separate tie for the back of the top inserting it on the holes I made just a while ago. Finally, I made five tassels with beads (that hang on the front of the top).
This is the final look of the commissioned project I did together with the crochet Rasta colored short.
I was relieved after I made the top and was able to pass my struggles in using black yarn. And now I was thinking of maybe getting a glasses for myself. Maybe that will help a lot.
Anyway, do you also share the same experience as I had? Did you also had some struggles in crocheting the black yarn? I'd be happy to know your side of story. Just drop your comment below.
Thank you for reading and God bless us all.

I showed this to my mom, who also loves crochets, and she was amazed! Looking forward to see more of your work ☺️
Hi Hannah. Salamat naman at approve ky mother mo. Hehe. God bless to your family.🥰
Thank you! Nainspire sya magcrochet ulet. 🥰
I really identified with your posts as I have been wearing glasses since I was very young and knitting with black yarn has always been a headache for me.
In winter most people ask for hats or scarves in black color, which is very tedious for me, I really avoid knitting with black color.
This outfit turned out spectacular, I loved it. Thanks for sharing. Greetings!
Thank you. They really like the color black since it's not easily get dirty. @romeskie share her technique to me after posting this by just puting something red in the background as contrast to the color black. I'd like to try it for myself. And I remember someone shared a crochet hook with led light in some online selling platform. 😊
I only make really simple things in black, because it is so hard to count stitches and correct mistakes. Using an Ott-Lite helps with its bright light, but it is still a struggle.
I understand! Yesterday I was doing alterations to a black dress and had to rip out the sleeves at the shoulders. I am thinking of investing in a lighted seam ripper before I try that again.
I think this is common to all who sew, knit, and crochet. And yes, we may be needing those lighted seam reapers or lighted crochet hooks, especially in the nighttime. Thanks for reading my post @fiberfrau. 🥰
You are definitely not alone with your problems using black yarn for crochet. I cannot imagine how exhausting it was to crochet the beautiful lace part of your top (by the way I love it!!!). Sadly, I do not have any tip how to make it easier. I think its in the nature of crochet; other than in knitting one must look at the stitches in crochet to find the right loop to insert the hook. Knitting is a bit easier in this regard as you have the loops always on a needle, so if you are very skilled (which I am not 😱) you can knit completely without looking.
Without a tip, still, I'm thankful for your comment. It just means that I'm not alone and we share the same struggles. Anyway, thank you so much for appreciating my work and reading my post. 🥰
This no struggle ooo 😂 @jonalyn2020 its really beautiful

Heheh yes definitely. Balik diri puhon paras tapok2.
Naa mi Christmas party ron. Let us know when ka pa Cebu. 😊
2.75 pala kinuha mong Tulip.
But I learned a technique. You should have a red background habang nagccrochet. Nakapatong dapat yung ginagawa mo sa kahit anong kulay red para kita mo yung contrast. Of course, kailangan pa rin maliwanag.
Anong pandayukdok na hook sis,?😅 3mm kasi sana yun, kaso naubusan ako ng stock ky aneka. Kya 2.75 yan.kunti lang naman ang difference.
Oh! Red lang pala Ang need?Sige itry ko yan. Hehe. Hehehe
Yung mga generic lang na hooks. Haha. May iba maganit gamitin, nakakangili pakinggan yung friction ng yarn at hook.
As in. Baka next time.hehe
Buti nalang pala pinost ko to.hahaha

I understand your struggles. Glasses should help, and I recommend using as bright of a light as you can when working with black. I have a reading light that goes around my neck that I use for this. Also, the pattern for the top looks very interesting, especially the doily. Do you have a copy of it available for purchase?
