#NeedleWorkMonday - After a year, I finally wore the 'just in case' dress. / Después de un año, finalmente usé el vestido 'por si acaso'. ☺️❤️

Good start to the week to all of you, dear fellow needleworkers and all of Hive in general ❤️. Happy to start a new Monday after having recharged a lot of energy this weekend, having some social events where I had fun and danced until dawn (something that hadn't happened in a lot of months 😅). Taking advantage of the fact that one of these meetings was something elegant, I decided to dust off a dress that I had a long time ago, but first I had to spend a bit of a sewing machine on it so that it would fit just as I wanted ✨❤️.

Buen comienzo de semana para todos ustedes, queridos compañeros trabajadores de las agujas y todo Hive en general ❤️. Feliz de empezar un nuevo lunes luego de haber recargado bastante energía este fin de semana, teniendo algunos eventos sociales en los que me divertí y bailé hasta el amanecer (cosa que no sucedía hace un montón de meses 😅). Aprovechando que una de estas reuniones era algo elegante, decidí desempolvar un vestido que tenía hace tiempo, pero antes tuve que pasarle un poco de máquina de coser para que me quede justo como quería ✨❤️.

When it comes to material things, I try not to hoard: I like to have the right and necessary things or all those that I know I am going to use at some point. But this is a bit difficult for me when it comes to clothes because I love having a lot of options when it comes to dressing: this is how I managed to have a closet full of clothes of all kinds, even some that I haven't worn in a long time. This is the case of this dress that I bought almost a year ago 'just in case'. Just in case of what? Just in case I had a fancy party in the middle of the season, on a day that wasn't too cold or too hot but I needed to be well dressed but not glamorous either. Ok, a pretty specific situation that took a while to come up but finally did this weekend 😅.

Cuando se trata de cosas materiales intento no ser acumuladora: me gusta tener las cosas justas y necesarias o todas aquellas que sé que voy a usar en algún momento. Pero esto me cuesta un poco cuando se trata de ropa porque me encanta tener un montón de opciones a la hora de vestirme: así es como logré tener un armario lleno de prendas de todo tipo, incluso algunas que no uso en largo tiempo. Este es el caso de este vestido que hace casi un año compré 'por si acaso'. ¿Por si acaso que? Por si acaso tenía una fiesta elegante en media estación, en un día que no hiciera mucho frío ni mucho calor pero que necesitara estar bien vestida pero tampoco llena de glamour. Ok, una situación bastante específica que tomó su tiempo en aparecer pero que finalmente lo hizo este fin de semana 😅.

This Saturday my friend Sofía invited me to her grandfather's wife's 72nd birthday: a celebration that would take place in a Spanish club where this lady is president. There would be several guests and a full buffet, we would also dance and there would be drinks. This occasion seemed quite appropriate to finally wear the long, beautifully printed dress that I bought some time ago. But the problem is that this size was quite large for me: I bought it online and although the saleswoman told me that it was a size 2 (coincidentally my size), this was not at all like that because in the bust area I had too much fabric for all sides. In the back it has some straps and pins that adjust the dress but in any case it was still too big for me 🥺.

Este sábado mi amiga Sofía me invitó al cumpleaños #72 de la esposa de su abuelo: una celebración que se llevaría a cabo en un club de españoles donde esta señora es presidenta. Habrían varios invitados y un buffet completo, también bailaríamos y habrían bebidas. Esta ocasión me parecía bastante adecuada para finalmente usar el vestido largo y de estampado hermoso que compré un tiempo atrás. Pero el problema es que este talle era bastante grande para mí: lo compré en línea y aunque la vendedora me dijo que era talle 2 (casualmente mi talle), esto no fue para nada así porque en la zona del busto me sobraba tela por todos lados. En la parte de atrás tiene unas tiras y unos pasadores que ajustan el vestido pero de cualquier modo me seguía quedando grande 🥺.

Fixing this problem was thankfully easy: I just had to take a bit of fabric on each side and that's it. But it got a little complicated because the bodice was made of double fabric and the waist was gathered, so before I put it on the sewing machine I had to baste it so as not to do it wrong. Luckily my grandmother was there to help me try on the dress every time I proposed a measure to make it smaller, because passing those straps down the back and adjusting it alone was not easy at all 😅.

Arreglar este problema por suerte fue sencillo: solo tuve que tomar un poco de tela en cada costado y ya. Pero se complicó un poco porque el corpiño era de tela doble y la cintura estaba fruncida, así que antes de pasar la máquina de coser tuve que hilvanar para no hacerlo mal. Por suerte estaba mi abuela para ayudarme a probarme el vestido cada vez que proponía una medida para achicarlo, porque pasar esas tiras por la espalda y ajustarlo sola no era nada fácil 😅.

I think I did a good job with this because the dress looked good on me afterwards. Even in the back part I didn't have to adjust it as much and now I had just the right amount of fabric ❣️. It may sound a bit vain but I felt really cute in this dress and I really wanted to have a chance to wear it without looking like an over the top. But luckily the occasion 'just in case' appeared and I was able to release it in it ❤️.

Creo que hice un buen trabajo con esto porque después el vestido me quedó bien. Incluso en la parte de la espalda no tuve que ajustarlo tanto y ahora sí tenía la cantidad justa de tela ❣️. Quizás suene un poco vanidoso pero me sentía muy linda en este vestido y de verdad quería tener una oportunidad de usarlo sin quedar como una exagerada. Pero suerte la ocasión 'por si acaso' apareció y lo pude estrenar en ella ❤️.

I remember that one of the things I wanted to do before I got the sewing machine was to fix old clothes and bring them back to life. Then I got distracted learning how to make lingerie and those projects took a backseat, but it makes me happy to make little tweaks from time to time to make things 'wearable' like in this case. And there I was very happy to have been able to adjust my dress in just a little while, feeling productive and elegant for the event 😅❣️.

Me acuerdo que una de las cosas que quería hacer antes de tener la máquina de coser era arreglar ropa antigua y volverla a la vida. Después me distraje aprendiendo a hacer lencería y esos proyectos quedaron en segundo plano, pero me hace feliz hacer pequeños arreglos cada tanto para volver a hacer las cosas 'usables' como en este caso. Y ahí estuve yo muy feliz por haber podido ajustar mi vestido en tan solo un rato, sintiéndome productiva y elegante para el evento 😅❣️.
