Creating A Polka Dot Magic ✨🪄✨

Blessed morning, beloved friends of Hive. It's a beautiful day down here and an exciting one for me in particular. I have had several hours of sleep and woke up feeling heavy and tired as if I had run some race in my dreams. 😂😂😂

Yesterday didn't really end well for me after picking some beans and cooking dinner. I wanted to make a polka-dot dress for my baby sister, whose birthday is today, but some migraine headaches ended up ruining the process.

For a long time now, I have wished to make something of this design for myself and with this kind of fabric. I have admired some beauty that other designers have created using this kind of polka-dot fabric and have hoped that someday soon I will be making unique too.

That day was meant to be today, and I was close to achieving that dress of my dreams in polka dots, but that never happened. And moreover, the dress isn't going to be mine; that's sad though, but it makes me happy. The dress is for my beloved on her special day.

My Stacy is finally a teenager, and as it is my custom to mark her every birthday with a simple photo shoot in new outfits, I was worried about what to sew for her. By the way, there was no money to purchase a new fabric. I have saved this fabric for myself for a long time now, but for the moment I had to give it up for my baby.

I thought of what to make, and then this idea came to sew her a dress that is now more mature than those ball dresses and princesses outfits she had occasionally worn. My teenage girl is fast growing up into a young lady with every possible speed she possesses. It is no wonder that we now wear the same size of clothes😂, myself and her. Since I have a petite stature, people often laugh at me that these young ones are growing up fast and catching up with me since I have refused to grow. 😂😂😂 Being petite isn't a crime, is it?

I'm making a 3step flair dress for my baby.

I started with cutting an A-line pattern from a lining that I will be using and pleating the polka-dot fabric on it.
After that, I marked out the lines where I wanted each step of the fabric to be sewn.

After sewing that in it, I realized that the A line didn't give me the fullness of the design shape I had desired.

Then I decided to cut another lining in full flair. Making a total waste of the first lining and losing steps I have sewn on it.

This was when everything started becoming too stressful for me.
I have to sew and experiment with the different outcomes of the two designs. Making use of the A-line lining at first was a strategy to conserve my fabric, but the dress will not have a beautiful fullness using that method; hence, a flair was necessary.

Next I had cut the front block, making it an overlap, and a simple back block with zipper allowance.

Pleating the 3 steps of polka-dot fabric on the lining took a lot of time. I was already tired, and the migraine wasn't helping out.

My doctor sent me some pills and advised me to rest. This was when sleep took over and I slept for hours. The drugs make one drowsy and sleepy continuously until their effects wear out.

I couldn't complete Ana's dress.

She didn't get to take any pictures.

But I gave her some doughnuts to share with her friends in school today; the class will sing her a birthday song, and she can always take pictures later to keep the memory of a new beginning. But for now I was advised to rest a little more for today before resuming any work/sewing.

What do you think of the dress?
I feel like introducing a few colors of bias and weaving, or would you rather prefer it in plain black and white as it is?

I think it’s already pretty and of course there’s nothing wrong in adding more colors but I think it’s going to prettier with the plain black. I like the lower part of the dress. It’s really pretty.

This is such a beautiful dress, I have always wanted this type of dress too for myself for awhile now but i have not been able to make it, seeing this lovely dress makes me want to have mine as soon as possible.

Great work dear, this is nice and a happy birthday to your niece.

Thanks dear.
We will have to get fabrics and sew this same design for ourselves too.

The most important thing is that you take care of yourself, you will finish this dress when you feel better.
I think that to finish it off it would be better to use a white ribbon, it would give a nice contrast.

Thanks dear. I feel better now and have just finished the dress too.
And a white bias looked perfect on it, I couldn't get a ribbon.
