Making a maxi off-shoulder dress: creating a casual wardrobe #3

in NeedleWorkMonday25 days ago

Hello, everyone! I hope you all are doing great. I love to show you a dress I made recently. If you have read my previous needlework post, you know I'm working on creating a casual wardrobe. This is the third casual outfit I'm making and I decided to make a dress.

The material I used for this dress is a Lycra fabric. This material isn't mine but for a friend. She gave me to make a dress. This was like 4 years ago. The material has been sitting in my stash for like 4 years now. Moreover, she recently relocated to somewhere far away. She doesn't need the material any more, and there is no point in keeping the material. I'm also trying to make use of old fabrics to create space for new ones.

Making this dress was easy, except picking a style that would be nice for the material took me a while. I knew I wanted something long but I had no idea how I wanted the up to be like. And besides the material has a particular pattern, and if not cut rightly, it can ruin the dress. I checked Pinterest for inspiration, and I saw a beautiful maxi off-shoulder dress. I knew I would love it.

Material used:
2 yards of lycra material
Thread

The process

I started by cutting the pieces for the dress.

The top piece (front and back) and the bottom piece (front and back)

I joined the top pieces together as well as the bottom pieces.

I then joined the top piece to the bottom piece

I cut the sleeves and sew

I joined the sleeves to the armhole or the dress

I then cut a 10 inches long cape (on the fold)

I attached it to the neck of the dress

I hemmed the bottom

Here is the finished result. You can share your thoughts in the comment section ❤️.

It is a very beautiful dress, it suits you very well, sometimes a fabric keeps for many years but every fabric reaches its project

Wow, it took four years for that fabric to be transformed into this beautiful dress, but the wait was worth it. It looks great on you and the design is amazing. Well done, congratulations ❤️.

Thank you, I wasn't even sure about the dress but I'm glad it turned out nice

Your friend probably doesn't remember that material anymore. Maybe if she sees the dress she will remember, hehehe.
I'm glad you were able to find the orientation of the print, it was perfectly placed on the chest, torso and bottom of the dress. It was very nice.

I know right? We spoke at length last week, and she didn't even mention it. 😂.
I had to figure out how to place the pattern so I could turn out nice, I'm glad it did.
