Experiment with sewing a summer top

in NeedleWorkMonday2 months ago

Good Monday to all our creative community!!! I hope this week has been productive for you and that you are doing well!

I have long wanted to try to sew a summer top for home. I came across an old cotton shirt and decided to use it for experiments. You don't mind ruining old fabric. To begin with, I cut out parts of the fabric that were completely unsuitable.

What was left did not inspire me at all. But then I decided to try to align both sides of the former shirt.

It got better! I wanted to try to sew something that would fit around the neck. I didn’t have any pattern and to be honest, I didn’t know how to sew it correctly. So to begin with, I simply pinned the folds of the fabric and the seams.

After I tried on the top, it turned out that the neckline was too deep and needed an insert on the chest. I had to make this from leftover pieces. In the end I received this top.

It's hard to say that I'm happy with the result. Still, I lack theoretical knowledge of cutting and sewing techniques. On the other hand, nothing prevents me from gaining this knowledge. It’s easier for me to experiment, get angry, and redo it than to sit down to theory. I know this is stupid but for now I'm stuck.
What do you think about teria: is it easy or just as difficult as for me?

Take care of yourself and be healthy!!!

Dear, this is how I started, and I have overcome a lot, now I am already experimenting with cutting several pieces, so I encourage you, you did very well for an experiment, I congratulate you.👌❤️

What a nice transformation of the old flannel, and even if you used it to experiment, it looked nice and you will surely wear it more often than the old flannel.

Hi Tali. Experimental sewing is more fun and trying things out along the way develops your creativity even more. You have to look on the bright side haha. Very nice blouse, I love the print. Cheers!

Hi @tali72, I love the transformation you did, it looks like a very cool fabric for the occasion.
