Rainy days, coffee, and yarn—perfect combo! It's been pouring since yesterday, giving me the perfect excuse to cozy up, stay warm, and get lost in my crochet.
I was crocheting without a plan, as usual. Every time I try to follow one, things never go right! So, I just let my hands work with the yarn and needle, and it led to something good. I ended up finishing a trivet that’s perfect for protecting the table from hot pans or serving dishes, plus storage baskets for spices!
I used excess macramé cords with a 6mm crochet hook.
I made 25 chains and then double-crocheted all the way through.
I crocheted through the back loops to create some texture, ensuring air circulates underneath when the hot pan is placed on it.
Then, I decided to add more texture by adding a slip stitch using brown cord.
To hide the ends and avoid tucking them in (which would look too obvious), I made end knots instead—it adds character.
I like the textured and stripy pattern it created.
It can be used on both sides, whichever you prefer.
The thickness of the cord is just right, and being 100% cotton makes it ideal.
The pot sits nicely on it.
It is aerated underneath, keeping the table cool.

To complement the trivet, I also made an onion/garlic/lemon holder in a matching color.
First, I cut 12 cords, about 2-3 times the length I wanted.
I used a ring.
I folded the cords in half, attached them to the ring, and made a gathering knot to secure them.
I divided the cords into groups of 4.
I made 16 half-square knots on each group to create the spiral look.
Then, I made square knots about 2 inches down, giving room at the top for putting in or taking out fruit or spices.
I made more square knots in alternating sections, about 1-2 inches apart, to create the mesh for the bag. I took two cords from one knot and two from the next.
When I thought I had enough length, I secured the bottom with a gathering knot and trimmed the excess.
Done!
I made another one in brown.
I like this pastel colour combo.
Now I have a set!
Let's fill them up! Fitted perfect. :)
I hung them in my kitchen, and it's perfect for storing onions, garlic, or lemons while keeping them ventilated and avoiding spoilage.
It feels great to make something both functional and useful, and it really adds a cozy touch to my kitchen!
Sometimes, the best creations come from just going with the flow.
And it's still pouring rain here! Is this ever going to stop? :)
I hope you're all having a lovely needleworking Monday!

I really love the pastel colour combo!
Wow! And the fact that the yarn is thicker so would definitely hold the fruits in place for as long as possible.
This is really pretty, innovative and definitely useful in serving it purpose and also as a decor.
Thank you, lovely @abenad, for your beautiful feedback. 😊💗
You’re welcome
Ohh I love this project, the colors and the slightly thicker yarn than I usually work with. It gives it a more rustic touch and at the same time delicate, you can see that the stitches are made with great precision! I congratulate you, both for the crochet and the macramé! Greetings, good Monday!
Thank you, dear @littlesorceress, for the beautiful feedback, it is much appreciated. 😊💗
