Winter Sunrise-Inspired Microcrochet Mandala Earrings

in NeedleWorkMonday15 days ago (edited)

I hadn't planned to make anything today—honestly, I rarely do—but nothing sparked inspiration. That was until I saw the stunning clouds outside my window this morning. The winter sunrise and beautiful colour palette inspired me to create something similar to the colours.

I decided to do microcrochet, and while it can be quite tricky, I genuinely enjoy it. For some reason—perhaps it’s just me—I can’t begin this intricate craft unless my mind feels calm and organized. This means tidying up and finishing all the house chores first so that I can sit down peacefully. Using tiny crochet needles and sewing thread, this delicate art demands precise coordination and deep concentration.

I was lucky enough to have the colours I wanted available.

Not exact, but near colours: gold orange, blush pink, pale lavender and cool gray.

Plus, a .60 mm crochet hook.

I decided on mandala earrings, something I could wear this winter!
Mandala earrings represent balance, harmony, mindfulness, creativity, and unity, blending spiritual symbolism with artistic elegance.

Micro Crochet Mandala Earring Pattern 🌅 (winter sunrise colours)

Materials:

Crochet thread in 4 colours:
Colour A: orange
Colour B: blush pink
Colour C: pale lavender
Colour D: grey
Steel crochet hook .60mm
Earring hooks.
Jump rings (optional).
Needle for weaving ends.
Beads (optional)

Pattern:

Round 1: Center (Color A)

Start with a magic ring.

Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch).
Work 12 single crochets into the ring.

Slip stitch to the first single crochet to join. Fasten off. (12 stitches)

Round 2: Second Layer (Color B)

Attach Color B with a slip stitch in any stitch.
Chain 2 (counts as the first double crochet), then work 1 double crochet in the same stitch.

(Always cut the ends long and tuck them as you stitch to secure, cut when you feel they are secure enough.)

Work 2 double crochets in each stitch around (24 stitches).

Slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-2 to join. Fasten off.

Round 3: Petals (Color C)

Attach Color C with a slip stitch in any stitch.
Chain 3, skip 1 stitch, slip stitch into the next stitch. Repeat from * to * around to create 12 loops.

Slip stitch into the first chain-3 loop to join.

Round 4: Reinforced Petals (Color C)

Continue with Color C, ST in any chain-3 loop.

Work (1 single crochet, 1 half-double crochet, 1 double crochet, 1 half-double crochet, 1 single crochet) in each loop around.

Slip stitch into the first single crochet to join.

Round 5: Outer Edge (Color D)

Attach Color D in any stitch from the previous round.

Chain 3, skip 1 stitch, slip stitch into the next stitch. Repeat from * to * around to create 12 chain-3 loops.

Slip stitch into the first stitch to join. Fasten off.

Weave in all loose ends with a needle.

You can stiffen the mandala by soaking it in a stiffening solution, shaping it gently, and letting it dry flat or leave it as it is.

Attach an earring hook via a jump ring, and add beads.

Microcrochet is, I think, better for accessories. It creates intricate, smaller-size crochet jewellery.

I can't wait for them! and am pleased with the result.

I hope I inspired you to try microcrochet.

Nature-inspired mandala. Capturing the serene beauty of a winter morning.

Wishing everyone peaceful and fulfilling moments with your crafts!
