Hello, depending on the amount of preserved nutrients, drying fruit is probably the best and most economical way to preserve food for the period when it is unavailable in nature, such as for the winter. This will preserve more vitamins and nutrients than canning or cooking.
I have a small dryer and when I was looking at the cost of a new and larger one, which still won't hold everything that is dried at home, I decided on another solution. There is still a bit of space left in the workshop where the dryer used to be, so I will make a dryer.
Ahoj, sušení ovoce je podle množství zachovaných živin asi nejlepší a nejšetrnější způsob jak si zachovat potraviny na dobu kdy jsou v přírodě nedostupné takže třeba na zimu. Zachováme tím víc vitamínů a živin než třeba zakonzervováním nebo vařením.
Mám malou sušičku a když jsem se díval co stojí nová a větší která stejně nepojme vše co se doma suší tak jsem se rozhodnul pro jiné řešení. V dílně zbylo ještě kousek místa kde stála stejně sušička ,tak si sušičku vyrobím .
I took an old cupboard and modified it to fit our dry food requirements at home and lined the whole interior with insulation for heating.
Vzal jsem starou skřín a upravil jsem ji aby vyhovovala našim požadavkům doma na množství sušených potravin a celý vnitřek jsem obložil izolací kvůli vytápění.
I made shelves out of mesh that I treated against mold, including a dryer, after all, I will put food inside on the metal grate.
Vyrobil jsem police z pletiva které jsem ošetřil proti plísním včetně sušičky, přece jen budu dávat dovnitř na kovový rošt potraviny .
I put tiles on the bottom of the dryer for safety reasons against a fire from the electric heater.
Na dno sušičky jsem položil dlažbu z bezpečnostního důvodu proti vzniku požáru z elektrického topidla.
A thermometer and a hygrometer for checking must not be missing.
I chose nuts for the first test, if something goes wrong, we have enough nuts 😂 .
Nesmí chybět teploměr a vlhkoměr pro kontrolu .

This is my fireplace, which I chose for the possibility of heating the dryer during the period when it has to be heated, and I blow hot air from the back of the fireplace through the wall with a fan into the dryer. But be careful, the fan has to handle the hot air. See next photo.
Tohle je můj krb který jsem zvolil na možnost vytápění sušičky v období kdy už se musí topit a ženu horký vzduch ze zadní strany krbu přes zed ventilátorem do sušičky. Ale pozor, ventilátor musí snášet horký vzduch. Viz další foto.
In the summer when we don't heat in the fireplace, I chose an old dryer that is no longer in use. it's small, but it doesn't have to produce as much heat in the summer as it does in the winter. But I also tried the electric version of drying and it also manages it.
4 layers of mushrooms took 2 days to dry, which is fine.
V letním období kdy netopíme v krbu jsem zvolil starou ted už nepoužívanou sušičku. je sice malá ale zase v létě toho tepla nemusí vyrobit tolik jako ted v zimě. Zkusil jsem ale i tu elektrickou verzi sušení a i ta to zvládá .
4 patra hub trvaly na vysušení 2 dny což ujde.

Woww, @ojirik - this is brilliant: thank you for the inspiration indeed! I have a vent-window behind our stove, and have thought about using some kind of fan to power the hot air through it to the bedroom in winter (the bedroom gets very cold)... Great to see how you put the whole thing together. Many thanks for sharing!
