On top of a palm tree trunk that had collapsed and begun to rot, a group of bright orange mushrooms grew. The color is so striking among the dry leaves and blackened bark. I approached and started observing.

From the shape and color, I immediately suspected that this was a mushroom from the genus Gymnopilus. Its characteristic is that: orange or brownish color with a slightly fibrous hat surface. I touched one of the mushrooms carefully. The texture is a bit dry, not slippery like some other types of mushrooms that I often encounter after it rains.

Because the lighting in that area was quite dim, I had to improvise a little with additional lighting so that the details of the mushrooms could be seen clearly. When taking photos, I try different angles. From above, this mushroom looks like a small umbrella neatly arranged on a wooden trunk. From the side, you can clearly see the texture of the slender stem with a paler golden color than the hat.

While I was busy taking photos, I could faintly hear the sound of leaves rustling behind me. I turned, but saw nothing. Maybe it was just the wind or a small insect passing by. However, I remained alert, because this small forest is also often home to various wild animals, including snakes.

After being satisfied with the results of my photos, I sat for a moment and enjoyed the atmosphere. This fungus may be often overlooked by many people, but for me, every small detail in nature always has an interesting story. Maybe this fungus is helping the process of decomposing fallen tree trunks, returning nutrients to the soil, and giving life to the surrounding ecosystem.

NOTE: I first wrote the article above in Indonesian, which is my own language, then I translated it using English with the help of Goggle.
