Today, as usual, I went around looking for interesting objects to photograph around the village. After the last few days of rain, I was hoping to find new mushrooms growing in unexpected places. And sure enough, near a coconut grove, I saw something that stole my attention—mushrooms growing on rotten coconuts lying on the ground.

I approached and was immediately curious. The shape is quite unique, with a pale brown hood that curves upwards slightly. The underside had clearly visible blades, a sign that this was not the common mushroom I often encounter. I also took photos from several angles, trying to capture the details well.

When I touched it gently, the texture felt a bit springy but also a little fragile at the edges. From the smell, there is no strong aroma like some other mushrooms I have encountered. After looking for references, I suspect this is (Ossicaulis semiocculta), a type of wood fungus that usually grows on dead tree trunks or wood that is starting to rot. Interestingly, this time it grew on a rotting coconut—perhaps because the inside of the coconut was moist enough and rich in nutrients for its growth.

I was getting curious, so I found out more. Apparently, this fungus is quite rare to find and usually grows in temperate climates. But because the environment around here is quite humid and there are still many coconut trees left to rot, maybe this is a suitable habitat for it.

NOTE: I first wrote the article above in Indonesian, which is my own language, then I translated it using English with the help of Goggle.
