For me it comes down to
The game needs to be fun but also not require over a hour of gameplay each day. Quick battles or quick things I can do are optimal.
The game needs to earn me something while being fun. A combination of these two things will blow web2 games out of the water.
The game needs to generate revenue outside of just pack sales. It needs external revenue streams. Sponsored tournaments in which sponsors pay to have their name on the tournament is just one of many ways to build revenue that supports the game but also the value of the cards and tokennomics.
