Rising Star - Guide to an Underrated Idle F2P Game to Play Alongside Splinterlands and Axie

Introduction

Rising Star is an idle game that is played on the browser.

The idea of the game is that you are a busker trying to gather fans and resources to one day make it as a superstar. In this game, you can earn crypto in the form of Starbits. Starbits is tradeable on tribaldex for other cryptocurrencies.

It is amazing because it is idle and you don't need to spend much time on it. You can reinvest the rewards gained in the game and allow it to generate more NFTs for you over time. It is also possible to play and progress without buying anything. Though, spending a little money on certain perks will help expedite your progress to becoming a superstar.

You need a Hive account to start playing it.
If you’re a Hive user or a Splinterlands player, you are good to go.

How do you Earn?

If you are starting out you only have access to the short missions that don’t pay much.

Beginner Missions

Your objective is to gain more fans and level up. What that does it it unlocks missions that pay better. They will also take longer to complete (so you don’t need to be actively playing).

From the screenshot below you can see that this mission takes 200 minutes to finish and yields me up to 1.6k Starbits. As your fans increase, the rewards you gain from missions will increase as well.

Missions

At the time of writing, running this mission once yields me from $0.8 to $3.3.
But do take in mind that I have been playing for around a month.
I also put in around $25 in cards for fans and boosters for extra perks. More on buying NFTs later.

There is another type of mission called music lessons, where you gain skill points as your reward.

Music Lessons

Skill is needed to keep your ego down.
Ego reduces the maximum amount of starbits you can gain from your missions.

How do you get fans?

One way you can gain temporary fans is by doing missions.

Sometimes you will gain some drunks who will stick around for around a day.

If you want permanent fans you will need to buy some NFT cards.

What do you buy?

Playing for free works, but it will take you some time before you start earning meaningful amounts.

If you are willing to, investing a small amount of money will go a long way in your rise to stardom.

There are 3 basic ways you can invest in Rising Star, in character NFTs, instrument NFTs or booster NFTs. You can also buy packs but I prefer buying what I want from the market since RNG is usually not on my side. NFA and DYOR of course.

Fans

In Rising Star, your earning potential depends on the amount of fans you own.

As mentioned, fans come from RNG-based drunks or NFT cards owned by you.

If you want to invest in fans, the most cost-efficient way is to use this tool built by @foxon. It identifies cards that are the cheapest.

Quick Tip : Prices in Starbits are usually cheaper than the prices in Hive. You can compare them in https://nftm.art/buy/star.

Instruments

Our main goal in the game is to level up, according to my understanding.

We want to get to level 40 to unlock the second 100% energy mission. At level 50, the Starbits millionaire achievement and mission is then unlocked. So we will spend a lot of time doing music lessons since they give more EXP.

The skill points earned for every lesson is different and depends on the instruments you own.
You will need skill points to keep your ego down at a later stage in the game.

My take on this is that I will be doing the lessons to level up regardless. So, I decided to invest a bit in instruments to make the most of it.
Not sure if it was optimal but I do find myself not having to worry about my ego levels at all.

By the way, @foxon’s site also works for buying instruments!
You just need to go to the lesson section of the site and choose the instruments you are looking for.

Boosters

Now here comes the unanimous MVP in the game — the Cold Pizza Slice.

Cold Pizza Slice

The Cold Pizza Slice refreshes every 24 hours. Each slice will fill your energy completely, so you can continue with your missions and level up or earn more.

This booster is the MVP because it allows you to progress in the game faster, no matter which approach you take. Whether if you intend to maximise your Starbits gains or to focus on your game levels.

The next essential booster is the Pizza Box.

Pizza Box

Pizza Boxes don't recharge themselves, instead they store Pizza drops from missions.
Since Pizza drops are random, it is very convenient to be able to store them for later uses.

I own 5 Pizza Slices and 2 Pizza Boxes in total and it is quite an overkill for me.

I rarely have to wait for my energies. Regardless of my objectives, mission time is usually the only constraint on my gains.

Another card that is exceptional but also quite pricey is the XP Boost.

XP boost

The XP Boost is the only card that can increase the amount of experience you gain from your missions. On top of that, these boosters scale according to the mission instead of simply adding to the amount.

For example, normal music lessons give 120 Exp, but with my basic version of the card, it gives me 216 Exp. As you can tell, it allows me to progress the game at a much quicker pace.

But, at the time of writing it costs around 45 Hive (43USD) for one copy. The price has appreciated for quite a bit since I bought it around 20 Hive (19USD). Do keep in mind that this card is now discontinued and the prices may keep going up if demand remains constant.

Conclusion

All in all, Rising Star is a game where the gameplay is unique and barrier of entry is low.
It is more about resource management than it is about the mindless grind.

Compared to the active gameplay we are accustomed to in Axie or Splinterlands, the passive gameplay is refreshing to say the least.

There is also much to explore in the game. After playing for a month, I am still a stranger to features such as Music Promoter or Fan Clubs.

Needless to say, I will continue playing the game while reinvesting the rewards.
