I had a photography teacher who always told me:
The best photo is taken close to the subject.
That made me think... about my shyness. Yes, although it may not seem like it, I am very shy. Telephoto lenses and zooms are very good for getting close to the subject and very convenient for people like me.
And in everyday life... in this day and age we also have a solution and that is the computer screen or the mobile device, like a bunker. We probably won't be able to say live and straight what we often dare to say through a screen. And then... Are we authentic? Are we sincere? I don't know. As I write this, I'm telling you that I'm not able to know how I would handle a situation that hasn't happened.
Maybe I'm not shy at all and I'm just playing with this moment of writing and expressing the things that come to my mind? I probably live in a parallel reality or I am not living, I just die every day a little bit.
Being a street photographer also brings a lot of responsibility and empathy.
I recently saw a strikingly subject, an old man who was selling mop cloths and was dressed like a dandy. You had to see him. He was wearing a Panamanian hat with a feather attached to one side, a long-sleeved red shirt, buttoned all the way up, and a pair of grey trousers with plaid, which were like textures. He had well polished pointy-toed shoes. He wore a gold watch and a ring too. And he was smiling. The image was beautiful as I projected it in my mind. He was showing his wares and I just had to approach him and wait for him to make a simple movement, natural, without posing. However, he was so close... I asked him to let me photograph him and he flatly said no. I nodded and went on my way.
On my way back we passed each other while I was walking on the same sidewalk. It was like a detour where if someone was coming towards you, you would see them practically on top of you. I brushed past him. He was carrying something plastic like containers that maybe he was also selling and they fell to the ground. I apologised as I tried to help him retrieve them... I'm sorry, I'm sorry, was all I could manage to say. Maybe because I was already feeling so embarrassed... from before.
These photos all have a story behind them, as well as a lot of thoughts I was trying to dispel while I was taking them. However, now they are yours. You can imagine yourself there as a photographer... among the people coming and going... the rushing, the waiting, the seducing and the longing.

Robert Capa once said that if your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough
and he was right by my opinion
the day when i learned his phrase, i stopped using zoom lens for my street and documentary photography. just 28 and 35mm lenses is good and small and less scarring the strangers :-))))
anyway, your series is beautiful.

You got it, and that's right, fellow photographer. 😌 I knew someone would say the original phrase.
Robert Capa, a great master of photography, knew what he was talking about. Documentary photography is not about shooting from a distance, it's about getting involved in order to tell the story not just through pictures.
In many cases I come close. In others I don't. It also depends on the mood I'm in and the people too.
I use a zoom lens because I only have two lenses and that's the best one because the other one is a basic lens, really bad. I know, I have to invest in equipment. But it will be when I can... as soon as I get Hive up to 3, I'll have what I want. 🤣
Thank you for your compliments.
@victorbz, @nanixxx... Who the hell is this Robert Capa, eh????...
hahahaha :))... I'm kidding guys!... I couldn't resist making this joke!... hahaha... I usually notice which lens my camera is on after I'm out on the street! :(... So I don't have much to say about :(... But I like to see this kind of comments on @visualshots posts!... Thank you both very much dear friends!...

Good one!
I, who like to question everything, don't think he was just talking about being physically close.
Close can also mean somehow involved.
@nanixxx @jlinaresp i don't really care about him and about other big names and their phrases. Personally my favorite photographer always was Daido Moriyama not the Capa, but i'm really love to be close in to the face when i taking portraits, or photographing at streets. And closer i come, more intimate my images looks and finally during the conversation ppl forget about my camera. :-))))
A superb photo, without a doubt! 😍
🖤🖤🖤
Most people are shy, even those who have a bog mouth and seem so confident.
About photographing people, you are brave. I never do that as it can have serious consequences and I don't want that. Even in a crowd, where it's impossible to avoid capturing people, it's difficult.
I'm always prepared to run 😂😂😂
😅 Yes, I think so too. I don't know about me. Lol.
Well, I don't think much when I have my camera and I'm taking pictures. I just try to be polite and respond appropriately in the moment. Some people like to be photographed. Others don't.

Wow! Photography teacher? It means you are really learning how to photograph well. Hmmm me? About taking photos so close? Might be I can do it with objects but with persons especially I don't know I really felt shy. How I wish to learn more about photography.
Hi, long time no see, I've seen you in your last post with the big belly and looking great. I'll be over in a while.
And yes, about the teacher, it was quite some time ago, but I still have teachers. You never learn everything. There are always new things around this art.
There are many tutorials and courses for beginners on the Internet that you can look at.

This series is simply beautiful @nanixxx
I've been through the same thing as you a million times, Famous photographers say that it is always better to be very close to the person to be more in touch with the situation, but it is not an easy task. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much.
My favorite photo is: Lines and Sunshine 🖤🤍
Have a great week ;)

Thank you, Dimas. Of course, it all depends on the intention and what you want to show. The great masters are right... it is precisely one of the greatest challenges of photography.
Another thing I always say is that once you've mastered the technique, that becomes secondary. It's about feeling and living the image. That takes getting close and involved.
Have a great week too!

Thank you! 😀
It happened to me once, I was at a fair here in this city and one of the people at the fair said no to a photo, I had already taken it and deleted it. Every photograph carries a story, absolutely true, the story of the photographed and ours.
The hands... great shot! I loved it!
When you ask permission to photograph someone in the street the very concept of the photo changes. It ceases to be street photography and becomes a portrait.
What happens is that whoever takes photographs in the streets must be careful to follow certain ethical rules.
When a person is aware that he or she is being photographed, the magic of the moment is lost.
Thank you, @avdesing. Lindo día y semana para ti.
Exactamente, así es y siempre debe ser con mucho respeto. Lindo día para vos también!😃
I beleive that good pictures can ve Taken from any distance . Ir depends of the fotografié intention
😅 Well, yes. When Robert Capa said his famous phrase about it, I don't think he meant just physical distance.
ok
I loved the title Lines and sunshine, that play with geometry, contrast and the motif of the individual makes it a perfect composition.
I only stood in front of that place for a few minutes, just long enough to take that picture, and I saw the lines disappear because a cloud covered the sun.
Thank you. 😇

Hyperbolising, you know... 😆
All I can say is: ‘Me quito el sombrero’ :)... And a big applause for you ans this apotheosic street photography series!...

😅 ¡Andamos los dos sin sombrero entonces!
