This is my Land!
So I think Land 1.5 is finally upon us. It is told that it could be released as early as Tuesday the 4th of April. In this version of the land update you get to know what kinds of Plot, Track, or Regional you have. It will basically be the details of your land type. Earlier it was told, all lands will have very similar utility in terms of type. However, after the publication of the Secrets of Pretoria whitepaper that seems not to be the case. I will try and explain some of that later on this post.
First things first though; I have 1 region, 1 track, and 15 plots. I have claimed the first two fairly early on, and my Region and Track are both in the Pristine Northwest of Pretoria. I own 1000 plots, the whole regional of number 010 Highmoor and 100 plots of 009 at Quegmoor. Follwing pictures are for the test server. Full Disclosure: They are not officialy realeased yet, so these are still subject to change.
One of the first heartburn people have as was over Land Geography. Following are the possible geography of land.
All these terrain geographies are supposed to give production bonuses or penalties based on type of cards staked on them. From the table above it is obvious that you will probably like to stake water or death splinter cards on swamp land, and they will give 10% production bonus. Similarly desert seems to be good for your Fire and Dragon cards. And yeah, we have arrived at the sticking point, Tundra seems not very desirable :) Here is the problem, Regions 003 - 006 seems to be dominated by Tundra. Well, dodged a bullet! My region 010 seems fairly diversified with fairly even distribution of Forest, Badlands, Mountain, and Plain with only 2.2% Tundra! Phew!
Other Areas
My tract holding is right next door in Pristine Northwest. My Tract is in 009 Quegmoor of the Pristine Northwest. This seems very different from 010, and seems like desert dominated. I have track 06 withing this region, which is plains, mountains and swamp dominated.
My last 15 plots were claimed later. Fairly recently to be more precise, which, I am now told, is a better idea! Who knew! Track 10 is located with Rason Detiir area towards the deep south, and seems to be lake dominated. I do not know which exact 15 plots I will get.
Summary
At this point, I do not know what to make out of all this. Not even sure if this will be the final distribution. However, it seems like I have a fairly even distribution of land, based on the test server. This looks good, but I am still quite unclear on how to monetize this. There is substantial cost associated with this, and I am unsure of the return. The main problems are currently starter packs. Whether to invest 10,000 DEC each into Building in Box, Time Vault, and Unstable Totem. I think I will definitely buy all the Building in box, but not sure about the other two. Feel free to enlighten me in the comments if you guys wish.
That's the weird thing yeah.... for the cost of all the DEC and cards, we actually don't know what magic items/spells will be made using the resources from land. It must be weird for you to potentially have to commit literal thousands of dollars worth of DEC and cards without knowing if the spells/items will be worth it (or too powerful and break the game) or not.
Agree. This is very strange and expensive.
How does your monster collection line up with the geography that you've got on your land holdings?
It doesn't. I only have about 10% of them. Rest will remain vacant
It will be interesting to see how your legendary lands are distributed among your holdings; and how those will be worked.
It's also interesting on a Tract-only level for a player such as myself.
I believe based on my holdings (Region 40, Tract 8) I am going to get mostly lake, river, and potentially a bit of grass land.
Based on statistics, I will likely have 10 legendary land. Ideally that requires 50 GFL cards. I do not have that.
I don't think anyone's land will be maxed out in that way. I'm certain there's not enough Gold Foil Legendaries in existence currently for that to occur.
I agree. I seriously think land maintenance is way too expensive compared to what it can produce. It will be fairly easy to see as the release will happen. I think team will take a hit. I think they are making a mistake. I think they know it. It will blow up and they will fix it.
I think we'll find out. Will it be a race to the bottom like early rentals? Possibly. The interesting factor for me is that there will seem to be more SPS available in battles (as it is currently) - unless of course there are the other use cases for land, such as whatever the Secret will be.
I'm just gonna hold on and enjoy the roller coaster.
Well, you will be pleased to know that we own a tract, and we plan to take full advantage of it. I'm not too sure how much I will gift back to holders but it will go something like this:
40% back into splinterlands
30% Divs
30% Me
I added me in there because I invested quite a bit of my own money last year getting a full deck for us :D
That sound great. What's the track number and region number, can look it up.
Neoxian has it at the moment. We pooled everything together with him. Some people got tracts, others plots etc. I'll tell you once I have it though. He sends us the sps every week which is nice!
The thing is what exactly would one do with the land?
Like you said you're unsure of monotization.. But what would the use be of land in the game?
Although I'm aching to buy a patch aswell!
It's unclear at this point. You will get SPS rewards and another new token called grain. However, the value of these items are unknown at this point.
Excited with the full implementation of land, and also how will it affect the gameplay in Splinterlands.
Yes, we all are. But I guess we have to wait.
Tundra and Canyon are interesting cases for sure. They have smaller penalties, but also smaller bonuses. People are up in arms for their 5%! Look at the neutrals, they don't get bonuses for anything - the mercenaries that they are.
I don't have as large a pool of farm workers to choose from, so I may have to be a little more strategic in trading my workers to fit my lands. I'll bet there will be many people in the same situation.
10% of my land can possibly be optimally used. Rest likely remain vacant at this point
Wow, you do have a lot of plots, but that is an incredibly low ratio. I would have figured you had more extra cards lying around, so this is a surprising Stat. Curious to see how all the land stuff plays out.
I do have extra cards lying around, but that is with the extra cards! Lol
Lets take a deep breath and embrace land... lol.
Wow cool. I have one Hills common 😂
