I think it has a lot of similarities with MTG. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. After I started playing Splinterlands, I ultimately sold my magic card collection (I got back about as much as I put in). With Splinterlands it's a lot quicker and easier to buy and sell cards because it's all online. It's also easy to rent cards in Splinterlands. Splinterlands is easier to play any time day or night and the time commitment for a game is small. You get matched by their algorithm to someone with a similar rating for each match. I've earned a lot of SPS and cards playing splinterlands, but I wouldn't call it profitable yet. I jumped in at the peak of the market and the Splinterlands market has a lot of room for volatility with the tokens being cryptocurrency and the cards being NFTs, but in my experience it has paid for itself and it's been a lot of fun. I do miss the social aspect of playing Friday Night Magic, but it had become pretty infrequent for me to be able to go.
