Angelic Mandarin

A variety of the already beautiful mandarinfish, the Angelic Mandarinfish is said to be blessed by the magic of the sea. They swim in the most gorgeous of tropical waters, and live peaceful lives in harmony with all around them. It is said that the touch of an Angelic Mandarinfish has healing properties. And that if one sees an injured person in need, they will swim up and stare into your eyes. As if looking into your soul. If they deem you to be kind, they will heal your wounds.

STATS AND OVERVIEW

In low mana cost battles Angelic Mandarin is a really nice card. For 3 mana it has high, 5 health, 2 speed so it can be used in any ruleset. It's only downside is the 1 ranged damage which is easily countered by a Shield ability.

It is a rare chaos legion card therefore everyone has it because it is part of the basic cards. I personally do own a copy of it. As you can see in the table below at the moment it is a not too expensive card as a regural foil nor as a gold foil. There are a lot of available copies at the moment.

BATTLE RULESET

I was in modern format silver 2 at the time of the battle. As you can see I had an interesting ruleset.

Melee Mayhem-Water
--Earth
--Life
--Death

BATTLE LINE UP

KELYA FRENDUL

Kelya is one of my favourite chaos summoners. It gives +1 speed and shield. I do own it, but not a level 3 copy, so I rented it out. Because it is level 3 I can use up to level 3 rares and I used it to my advantage. I chose this summoner because of the limited mana cap, for the weekly challenge and I did not have Mylor available. Because Mylor would have been the best choice for the given ruleset with a Shield and Demoralize ability.

WAR CHAANG

Before the Chaos Legion came out I rented this card a lot, nowdays I rarely rent it, but now it was rented out. It has Retaliate and 2 types of damage, thanks to Close Range I was able to utilitze it's ranged damage in the first row. I put this into tank spot due to it's high health and it's ability.

DISINTEGRATOR

With Melee Mayhem ruleset I think this is a must, due to it's Demoralize ability. When you know that you'll have to deal with a lot of melee monsters than you should bring one with Demo' ability. It is available for everybody, this is why I like it a lot. It's only downside might be it's low speed, but it can come in handy in Reverse Speed battles.

XENITH MONK

Xenith Monk I really like it from level 3, because at level 3 it has the Heal ability. With that it becomes a good main tank for low mana cap battles and a decent main/off tank for every other battle, unfortunately I forgot to put it into the off-tank/last spot in this battle. At level 3 it has 4 speed which I think is exceptional, but it only has 1 damage, so a Shield ability can render it totally useless.

TORRENT FIEND

The jolly-joker of Water splinter is the Torrent Fiend. It costs nothing so if you have a vacant slot but you've run out of mana, than it's for you. In Melee Mayhem it can deal damage from anywhere as well. It can be a good trap or potential target for enemies with Opportunity ability. Occasionally it can enforce some misses too.

ANGELIC MANDARIN

This week's challenge card. To be honest I only used it because of the challenge. With these rules it's not a wise choice, but it has relatively high health, so it can survive some blows and save my other monsters during the battle. This is why I put it into the last row as an off tank.

ROUND 1

image.png

I'm lucky that my enemy did not have Mylor or did not use it. As you can see there is an anti-melee on the enemy team, but all of the enemy monsters deal only 1 damage, so the damage advantage is on my side 8 vs 5. But my enemy has the health advantage 22 vs 24. It could be a really close battle.

ROUND 2

image.png

In the first round 1 of the enemy monsters died. My enemy's tank is almost dead and my off tank took a beating as well. My main tank holds steadily.

ROUND 3

image.png

In the second round my enemy lost it's tank and I lost 2 of my monsters. Now I have both the health and the damage advantage, 6vs3, 14vs10.

ROUND 4

image.png

The fourth round is the last I have 6 damage the enemy has 6 health, I have the speed advantage and the Retaliate ability will help me to victory as well.

Did my strategy work?

Yes, I won the battle. It was a nice win my plan was a success, I enjoyed it.

What will I try differently next time?

Given this ruleset I would not change my lineup. I know that it was a risky tactic, but sometimes you have to risk to win.

Do you like ANGELIC MANDARIN? Why or why not?

I think this is a really situational card. In low mana cap battles it can be good, but in general I don't really use it, because for the Water splinter I have better alternatives for 3 mana.

Thanks for the reading, I hope you enjoyed, see you on the battlefield!
