beem to generate this post, but that is not in active development and I found HiveSQL could do it much quicker. I use Python for most things. Some of the post is manual as I like to include some commentary and I will keep tweaking it. I am open to suggestions for improvements. I aim to do a fresh list on the first Saturday of each month.I started compiling these lists in December 2020 to continue something @pennsif used to do as I think it helps bring the community together. Since then I have found lots more people to include. @HiveSQL has been really useful for this. I was using
Discord to discuss it or drop me a comment.I also rely on the community to let me know of more people to include who may not have obvious account metadata. You can find me in the @teamuksupport
Those based in the UK can use the #teamuk tag for an extra vote. If you see people using it on non-relevant posts then drop them a friendly comment to point out that is not encouraged.
The list will include anyone living in the UK as well as Brits who have moved abroad. Inclusion on this list does not mean I recommend people, but I will remove accounts if they are known to be abusing Hive or are falsely reporting their location. I can also remove anyone who asks me to. If you have lost control of your account through phishing or other means then let me know so that I can update your entry.
The code to produce this post is on Github. People are welcome to use it for their own regional version. I can help you with that if necessary.

What it means
The numbers above are for those who had posted or commented in the previous month. In the lists below I break each region into three lists:
- Active as above.
- Just voting. I will guess that a lot of these use automatic votes, e.g. HiveVote. Previously there were some that appear to have been compromised as they vote for known abusers. Those are now excluded until I hear that they have recovered control.
- Inactive in the last month, but most have done something since Hive started. We can hope to bring them back.
I want to count people rather than accounts as some have several. I can include those in brackets if you want. Let me know if you want me to update your listing. You can be as specific as you like about your location. Otherwise I will use what is on your profile or what I am told or can deduce from your posts.

Commentary
I was not sure if I would be able to put out the list this weekend as @hivesql has been out of action due to malicious hackers and I rely on it to get all the data. I am happy to report that @arcange has been working hard and it is back today.
Of course I ran my script to look for any Brits I might have missed. It found a few with a couple of false positives. Some people in Ukraine use UK as their location and place names can be duplicated, especially in the USA. It is not really worth making my script smarter as I can easily check these manually. I was able to add a few people to the list. A couple look like SEO attempts that usually seem to come via InLeo. I suspect someone is creating those accounts on behalf of clients. The are unlikely to post again, but I count them anyway.
The overall numbers are down a little despite some people coming back. We need to keep working to recruit new users and encourage the existing ones to stay active. Half the people in Wales who posted in January did not do so in February.
We gained an Orca and two Dolphins this time, so people are powering up.
I had another person ask to be de-listed and so moved them to the anonymous category. Maybe they do not want to be notified of these posts, but it will only be once each month. I try to avoid having to edit the posts as that would notify everyone again.

Per usual, well done @steevc - always a great #BritList summary. 💫 And glad you found a solution to the hacking problem! But sad to learn the issue with HiveSQL is still on the periphery... Why some people feel the need to corrupt a good thing, I have no idea...
I think anyone running an online service is at risk as the crooks will try to extort money from them. It's not like HiveSQL is a massive earner, but we need it. I am hoping this encourage more people to look into decentralising it.

A lot of things depend on it. Some projects may look to have their own server after this incident.
I reckon it would be good if there was a way for HiveSQL to have multiple copies in some way, to provide redundancy if (or when) this happens again. With any luck it might save @arcange a huge amount of work (which I know we all appreciate !)
I'm not technical enough to know if there's a way to create an air-gapped copy with more recent data uploaded a couple of times a day after enough time had passed to intercept any hacks or other issues. It might mean less data to reconstruct. But I'm thinking like a mechanic not an IT person, so I could be totally wrong, lol.
Without going into details, the HiveSQL infrastructure has been completely revised to improve it, particularly in terms of backups. This might be the subject of a future post, if I find some free time.

It ought to be possible to run multiple servers. I expect arcange has reviewed his backup strategy. You need offline copies to be safer as these crooks are cunning.
