I have an 8 Reales coin! I know I 've shown it before, I just can't find the article. This is for you, sis!
1806 Mexico 8 Reales- Carlos IV
The obverse depict the bust of Carlos IV. His full name is a mouthful: Carlos Antonio Pascual Francisco Javier Juan Nepomuceno José Januario Serafín Diego Source. That is quite a long name, I must say! He ruled for two decades from 1788 to 1808.
The reverse is a crown on top of a coat of arms with pillars on the side.
I bought this coin about three and half years ago. It was pricey then. I know couldn't afford it now, although I have not check for prices.

Hehehe, I only have this one, and I keep it with my other coins.
So it isn't really a coin that says 8 reals. It was worth 8 reals. I've seen that approximate weight in other coins.
Hehehe... it DOES say "8R" if the face of the coin, meaning 8 Reales.
It is crown size and weight.

Yes, it's the Pillars of Hercules... As I was saying, I only researched the coat of arms of the Reales when I got the coin.
I love to see gloves worn with nice coins and when i saw the picture it looks like you destroyed half of western europe with that coin

Sis, you know I love these authentic 8 Reales as the kind of coinage made legendary by the Golden age of Pirates and accepted as Commerce for Chinese goods. Maybe even the choice of Chines Pirates like Ching Shih!
Spain, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, the 8 Reales have no doubt had a huge influence on World Commerce.
As you know I have a 1805 Carlos IIII that has been to China.

Yes... when I research it made more sense! The logo on the pillars of Hercules means "further beyond", and Spain during that age was a pioneer in discovering new places!

Very interesting piece. It does not bear the mint mark, that many colonial Mexican coins have. The 8 reales was one of the most used coins during the Spanish Empire.

Yes, it bears the mint mark "Mo" for Mexico City.
It was used heavily especially for trade to the East.

Thank you for pointing it out. Now I notice the mint mark, it is quite worn. In the photo of the piece at auction, it is seen clearly. These mint marks are quite important in the Mexican numismatic.
