Decentralized Badge System on Hive: How It Works on PeakD
Badges on the Hive blockchain are not exclusive to PeakD. Any platform on Hive can leverage the badge system equally. With new tools by the @peak.open team, sites now have access to stats and APIs, helping decentralize badges across Hive and making it easier for platforms to display relevant badges.
Because of the recent updates by @peak.open stats project we are able to make some big changes to Badges. https://peakd.com/hive-139531/@peak.open/badge-stats-and-hive-badge-decentralization
- Easier for us to determine which badges are active and follow PeakD display rules
- We have a filter that will show you ALL BADGES (even non PeakD qualified badges)
- We show more stats to show health of that badge
- We have different ways to sort badges making it easier to follow good badges.
Basic Badge Creation
Creating a badge is simple:
- Make a new account with the username format @badge-123456 (6-digit suffix).
- Done! This account now qualifies as a badge. View Here
Creating a Meaningful Badge
For a badge to be useful and meaningful:
- Profile Image: Upload a badge image users will recognize.
- Name: Set an intuitive name for the badge.
- Description: Describe the badge purpose and how users qualify.
- Followers: Follow accounts that deserve this badge.
How to Get Badges Displayed on PeakD
PeakD has specific criteria for displaying badges.(Every UI may have their own rules) We review the badge list at HiveHub Badges and will consider any that qualify. If you’d like to get a badge added sooner, comment or send a SNAP to @peakd or @jarvie.
Requirements for a Badge on PeakD
- Profile Image: Must be clear and relevant.
- Name: The badge name should be understandable.
- Description: Clearly state qualification criteria.
- Followers: Follow accounts that qualify for the badge.
- Activity: Regularly update followers to fulfill the badge's purpose.
- Reputation: Avoid having users frequently hide/mute your badge.
- Hive Only: No mentions of STEEM (badges must be Hive-exclusive).
Determining Badge Activity
Badges with ongoing relevance or timely updates remain visible. To qualify as "active," a badge must align with its original intent:
- Active Curation: If intended for regular updates, badges should "stay current" to avoid misleading users.
- Archival Badges: Badges marking a one-time event or time period can remain static if they clearly reflect a historical or unchanging purpose.
Example: A badge for "2021 Community Contributors" could remain relevant even without recipient updates, as it reflects a specific timeframe.
Regaining Badge Status on PeakD
Reviving an old badge on PeakD is straightforward:
- Update Badge Details: Modify the badge description to reflect its current recipient status or make user changes to align with its purpose.
- Request Review: Contact @peakd or @jarvie for a fast review. We’re happy to re-add badges that meet the badges own criteria (and our criteria)
Note: Badges on PeakD must consistently meet the platform’s standards to stay active. The essential rule is simple: Badges must follow the rules the badge itself sets in their own descriptions.

I'll be interested to see what badges people create. This will be a cool thing for various communities. I may have to look into how I could use it.
Very interesting and meaningful feature.
But I think that the suffix of only six digits is a bit limited? I guess some users will choose some number combinations that look more beautiful.
So will this restriction be relaxed in the future, such as allowing a combination of six digits and letters? Or further allow any suffix? 😍
good criteria

Badges are really cool way to show off your accomplishments and achievements on Hive. They give at least for me, an incentive to strive towards certain goals to earn a badge.
Congratulations @peakd! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain And have been rewarded with New badge(s)
Your next payout target is 26000 HP.
The unit is Hive Power equivalent because post and comment rewards can be split into HP and HBD
