The Power of Presence
Life has a way of reminding us, often in the most brutal fashion, that time is the most precious resource we have. After receiving devastating news about a dear friend, someone who wasn’t just a name in our circle but a part of our extended family, it hit harder than ever: we don’t get unlimited chances to be present with the people who matter most.
So, this weekend, we didn’t just “have a good time.” We maximized it. We made the conscious decision to be there—fully, unapologetically, and with deep gratitude.
We walked through the Japanese Garden, soaking in the sunlight like it was fuel for the soul. We had matcha lattes that weren’t just drinks but experiences, shared over conversation that cut through the noise of daily life. We reconnected with old friends, dove into deep talks, and let loose with laughter that felt like a reminder of what really matters.
And no, we didn’t get to see everyone we wanted to—because life isn’t perfectly scheduled, and sometimes geography gets in the way. But we did what we could, and we did it with intention.
The Takeaway? Stop Waiting.
Don’t wait for the “right time” to check in with a friend. Don’t wait for “next weekend” to spend time with family. Don’t assume that just because you could make time later, you actually will.
Tragedy has a way of exposing how much time we waste on things that don’t matter. So let’s flip that. Let’s treat our time with the urgency it deserves. Because at the end of the day, the only thing that truly matters is how much we showed up for the people we love.
Go. Call that friend. Hug your family. Make the damn memories. Be present.

I would, that way you can plan for fulfilling last few minutes of life. But you would be staring at that clock 24/7 until it happened! Tough call... If it were 40 years out I wouldn't mind knowing, if it was next week that would be stressful. If it was in five minutes, well then you wouldn't have to worry!

Unrelated to the conversation but very much on my mind, was Eric, an old friend whom I’ve not seen in years, died recently. The plans to catch up one day… yeah. It brought it home.
Make that one day, tomorrow or just soon because it might never come.
We’ll be attending his funeral at the end of the month.
Indeed! Exactly that... You never know... This might be your last weekend, or their last month. So right the next day, we went to another friend of ours, to have dinner together. And the day after we drove to my brother-in-law. Time always goes faster than you expect it to...
