Dear diary?

Well, this is not a personal diary. The title might be a bit misleading. But, this is going to be a random talk about diaries..

Let's start with a question, is it a good thing to have a personal diary?

To answer that question, I guess it is fair to say that it is not a good or bad thing to have a diary. In some cultures, it is normal to have a diary. In other cultures, it is odd. If we were to talk about the positives here. Having a diary would be a good thing because, it will help the person who is having a diary to keep a note of things that happens during his day and it will help him remember them better. Sometimes, it even helps to cope with adversity. In addition to that, people who have a diary will be practicing writing on daily basis. Which will eventually lead them to have a more organized ideas when they write.

If I have not had a diary before. What would I write in the diary?

The best answer that I came across when asking this question is that, people shall keep it random. There are some people who tend to have a certain tone or a way of writing things in the diary, which is a good thing and it is more organized this way.. However, it could sometimes be a hassle in writing everything on your mind, which defeats the main purpose of it.

Hey!

I feel for both questions it helps to have a goal in mind as for how do you want to use the dairy. A dairy is a beautiful tool to help you reflect on your progress and struggles (towards a goal) so you can learn from your journey and make adjustments. Which is normally harder to do when you living the experience in the moment.

I've kept multiple goal focussed dairies in the past (marathon programs, rehab program, reflecting on mental health, road to amateur fights, eating habits, financial goals). Currently I use strava to keep some sort of dairy to study my daily progress towards my new marathon and make adjustments based on how I experienced the trainingsschedules.

With my kids I learn them how to use a dairy to get worrying thoughts out of their minds and onto the paper - when the event they worried about happened we can look back at the thoughts and reflect if it was indeed so bad as they thought before or that some of the worries were unnecessary.
